\nThy Kingdom come!<\/p>\n
Preparatory prayer<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0(to put me in the presence of God)<\/em><\/p>\n Jesus, you invite me to a moment of prayer with you, help me to deepen with you your living Word. May the Holy Spirit enlighten me so that I may discover your message in my heart. In you I trust.<\/p>\n Gospel of the day<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0(to guide your meditation)<\/em> When noon came, the whole region was in darkness until mid-afternoon. And at mid-afternoon Jesus cried out with a loud voice, \u201cEloi, Eloi, lama sabaktani\u201d. (Which means, \u201cMy God, my God, why have you forsaken me?\u201d). And some of those present, when they heard it, said, \u201cLook, he is calling Elijah.\u201d And one ran and dipped a sponge in vinegar, and fastened it to a reed, and gave him a drink, saying, \u201cLet him come, that Elijah may come and fetch him down.\u201d And Jesus, uttering a loud cry, breathed his last. And the veil of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. The centurion, who stood in front of him, when he saw how he had expired, said, \u201cTruly this man was the Son of God\u201d. And when the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary of James, and Salome bought spices to go and embalm Jesus. And very early on the first day of the week, at sunrise, they went to the tomb. And they said to one another, \u201cWho will roll away for us the stone from the entrance of the tomb?\u201d And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away, and that it was very large. And they went into the tomb and saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in white. And they were frightened. And he said to them, \u201cDo not be frightened. Are you looking for Jesus the Nazarene, the crucified one? He is not here. He is risen. Look at the place where they laid him.<\/p>\n Word of the Lord<\/em><\/p>\n Meditate on what God tells you in the Gospel<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Today we remember the \u201cFaithful Departed\u201d. Indeed, we remember all our loved ones who have departed this life to meet God. We commend them to his mercy, we pray that the Lord of life will grant them eternal rest, where life no longer perishes. We miss our deceased, especially those who have marked us in our hearts by their kindness, dedication, affection and teachings. I wonder what it must have been like to miss Jesus when he ascended to heaven, and all those who saw him, those who shared with him his words, his miracles and teachings, suddenly did not see him anymore, only the still fresh memory of all that happened. And as the years went by, that first Christian community discovered his loving presence in his Word, in the breaking of the bread, in the early Church. It was already an experience of faith, that death does not have the last word.<\/p>\n That faith in Christ and in his Word is what should also move us to remember our deceased relatives, to pray for them and to honor them with a life according to the Gospel. And we can still go a step further. If we have the opportunity to go and bring flowers to our deceased, there where their remains rest, we will surely come to see very abandoned places, unknown to us but which are undoubtedly someone's family. Deceased to whom nobody asks for them anymore, nobody brings them a flower, and it can be for many reasons: forgetfulness, illness (they cannot go by themselves), physical remoteness (they live in another city or country), etc., but prayer has no borders and knows no strangers; and we can also commend in our prayers these forgotten and abandoned deceased.<\/p>\n Something very important is that remembering our deceased, and praying for them, should not be an occasion for discouragement or hopeless sadness. On the contrary. Remembering them should be a motive of hope in the Resurrection, of strength on the road, knowing that the crown of victory awaits us if we live in Christ, that we should take advantage of every moment to build our future in eternity. In what dwelling place in heaven would I like to live? That dwelling is being built today.<\/p>\n \u00abThese words, brothers and sisters, accepted in faith, make the prayer for our deceased brothers and sisters truly Christian. They also enable us to have a truer vision of their existence: to understand the meaning and value of the good they have done, of their strength, of their selfless commitment and love; to understand what it means to live aspiring not to an earthly homeland, but to a better one, that is, the heavenly homeland (cf. Heb 11:16). Prayer in suffrage for the deceased, raised in the confidence that they live with God, thus extends its benefits also to us pilgrims here on earth. It educates us to an authentic vision of life; it reveals to us the meaning of the tribulations we must pass through in order to enter the Kingdom of God; it opens us to true freedom, disposing us to a continuous search for eternal goods.<\/em> Dialogue with Christ<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n This is the most important part of your prayer, prepare yourself to talk with much love with the One who loves you.<\/em><\/p>\n Purpose<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Propose a personal one. The one that involves the most love in response to the Beloved... or, if you believe that this is what God is asking of you, live what is suggested below.<\/em><\/p>\n It is never too late to start. If we have not already done so, let us pray today for our deceased family members and make this a practice.
