Does education still have the power to transform individuals and peoples? What role can the Catholic university play today in a society marked by cultural fragmentation and loss of meaning? With these questions in the background, Pope Leo XIV wanted to look at the very root of the Christian educational project: an education that not only transmits knowledge, but also forms humanity, integrates faith with reason and places the person at the center of knowledge. His message is an invitation to recover the original vocation of education as a service to the common good and as a path to God.<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

On the occasion of the <\/span><\/span>Jubilee of the Educational World<\/span><\/span><\/a>, Pope Francis received in audience the members of the Organization of Catholic Universities of Latin America and the Caribbean (ODUCAL). Before more than a hundred representatives of institutions of higher education, the Holy Father encouraged them to be an \u00abincomparable center of creativity and irradiation of knowledge for the good of humanity\u00bb and exhorted them to promote the integral development of the person with excellence, competence and professionalism.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

During the audience, Fr. Cipriano Sanchez, L.C., the rector of the <\/span><\/span>Anahuac University Mexico<\/span><\/span><\/a>, The Holy Father was presented with a figure of <\/span><\/span>Leonel<\/span><\/span><\/em>, the mascot <\/span>university <\/span>of the <\/span><\/span>Anahuac University Network<\/span><\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Catholic education, a bridge between faith and culture<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The P<\/span>apa<\/span> highlighted in the audience the various roles that Catholic universities play at the service of the Church's educational mission, underlining the value of the bonds of collaboration and affection that should characterize the organization. He recalled that the purpose of this network of more than one hundred institutions is to promote the progress of Catholic higher education and to serve society, creating spaces of encounter between faith and culture to proclaim the Gospel in the university environment.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Pope reiterated that this joint journey reflects the mission with which the university was born in the heart of the Catholic Church: to be a place where \u00abthe joint effort of intelligence and faith allows men to reach the full measure of their humanity\u00bb. In this sense, he affirmed that the Catholic university continues to be one of the Church's best instruments for expressing God's love for the human person.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Church, historical driving force of education in Latin America<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Pope <\/span>record<\/span>or the origins of university life in Latin America, where the Church has been a fundamental driving force in education. The continent's first universities -<\/span> such as Santo Domingo, San Marcos de Lima or Mexico City.<\/span> - The first two were the initiative of bishops, religious and missionaries who were convinced that proclaiming Jesus Christ, \u00abWay, Truth and Life\u00bb (<\/span><\/span>Jn<\/span><\/span> 14:6), is an integral part of the Christian message. In continuity with this mission, today's Catholic universities are called to become \u00abitineraries of the mind towards God\u00bb, incarnating their Catholic identity and promoting the formation of critical intelligences, believing hearts and citizens committed to the common good.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Holy Father concluded by encouraging ODUCAL representatives to move forward with creativity and confidence, knowing that grace sustains them in the mission entrusted to them by the Church.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
