Clara Ansaldo arrived at World Youth Day 2023<\/a> in Lisbon in the midst of a discernment process she had already been navigating for several years. Through encounters, celebrations, and moments of prayer, she lived experiences that helped her confirm fundamental aspects of her vocational path and her belonging to Regnum Christi. Today, she shares how that World Youth Day strengthened her trust in God and allowed her to dive deeper into the questions she carried in her heart.<\/p>\n

What were the questions or concerns weighing on your heart before you went to WYD Lisbon?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I was already in a discernment process and had been for a couple of years, feeling very supported and with a certain clarity about what Jesus was showing me. Even so, before and during WYD, I went through a period of great doubt regarding what God wanted for my life. I had a deep desire to know His plan, but I felt little clarity about the next steps; I didn\u2019t know if He was actually calling me to consecrated life or if His call was simply to follow Him in the reality I was living at that moment. From there, many other questions arose: Was I taking the necessary steps? Was I on the right track? Should I keep studying for my degree? What was the next step, and when should I take it?<\/p>\n

During WYD, did you experience a particular moment where you felt a greater sense of clarity moving within you?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I think there were several moments during WYD that, step by step, helped clear up many of those doubts. One of them was the moment with Pope Francis. I remember that as I listened to him speak, I felt a deep certainty that my primary calling was, and always would be, to follow Jesus and to love as He does in any state of life. Although this perhaps didn\u2019t clear up all the doubts I was carrying, it did bring me a lot of peace to know what my true goal was. I also powerfully received that call to not be afraid and to trust, knowing that everything would be in His hands.<\/p>\n

What was your experience with Regnum Christi like in that context, and what caught your attention the most?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Regnum Christi gathering was my favorite moment of WYD. It was definitely another moment of great clarity, of feeling at home in the midst of so many strangers, and of confirming, once again, my belonging to Regnum Christi. I remember enjoying the music, catching up with old friends, and everything I experienced that day. It was a day of immense joy.<\/p>\n

For me, it was a very powerful experience because, even though I had arrived with all these doubts regarding my vocation, I experienced great clarity in discovering that, whether I became consecrated or not, Jesus was calling me to Regnum Christi. And it surprised me so much because I\u2019ve been in Regnum Christi almost my entire life. It was like hearing Jesus confirm something that, in reality, I had never even questioned. It brought me so much peace to know that, no matter what happened or what I decided regarding my vocation, Jesus was calling me to remain in this family.<\/p>\n

What did WYD bring to the discernment process you were already navigating?<\/strong><\/p>\n

In reality, the discernment had already begun before WYD. In fact, when I went to Lisbon, I was living with the community of Consecrated Women in Santiago, Chile. But after WYD, I felt I could dive deeper into my discernment. I started questioning more things without fear, and step by step, as I began finding answers, Jesus marked the path with great clarity.<\/p>\n

What does 'giving yourself the opportunity' to discern mean to you, beyond simply reaching a concrete decision?<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is an act of pure trust in God, of learning to place yourself in His hands\u2014something that represents a very valuable lesson for life, regardless of what is decided in the end. I always think of it as receiving a gift and not opening it. When we receive a package, the first thing we do is open it to see what\u2019s inside, and then we decide if we want it or not, if we like it or not. But opening that gift doesn\u2019t necessarily imply a call to consecrated life.<\/p>\n

And the best part of all is that the gift we are sometimes afraid to open always turns out to be the very best thing for us. Ultimately, giving ourselves the chance to discern is hard, but in the end, that\u2019s what it\u2019s all about: receiving a gift and learning to trust in God. And there is nothing better than that.<\/p>\n

On this discernment journey alongside the Consecrated Women of Regnum Christi, what have you discovered about yourself and about what you are looking for in life?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I have learned so much about myself. This entire discernment has been a process of great self-knowledge and of getting to know Jesus more deeply, so that I could also know myself through His eyes. I think the most important thing I have discovered about myself is knowing that I am infinitely and unconditionally loved by God. And it is this love that shows me what I am looking for in life: to respond to Him and to learn to love as He does.<\/p>\n

Thinking of the young people who will participate in the next WYD in Korea, what would you say to those who might be experiencing a similar stirring but don\u2019t know whether to take the next step?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Go with confidence and do not be afraid. Jesus is the one most invested in showing us the way, and even though He sometimes surprises us with how He does it, He always knows what we need better than we do. It is absolutely worth placing all our trust in Him.<\/p>\n

I would also tell them not to look for an answer overnight, but rather for peace. Jesus doesn't ask us to have the complete map of our lives; He only asks us to take the next step with Him, knowing that His plan is to lead us to heaven.<\/p>\n

Clara is currently living in Chile and will soon travel to Mexico to begin the preparatory course with the Consecrated Women, marking the next step in her journey.<\/em><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
