From the Holy Gospel according to St. Mark 6, 45-52<\/p>\n

At that time, after the multiplication of the loaves, Jesus urged his disciples to get into the boat and go on to the other side toward Bethsaida, while he dismissed the crowd. After he had dismissed them, he went up to the mountain by himself to pray.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

As night fell, the boat was in the middle of the lake, and Jesus was alone on the shore. Seeing how they struggled to row forward, for the wind was against them, he went to them, walking on the water, shortly before dawn, and it seemed as though he intended to pass them by.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

When they saw him walking on the water, they thought he was a ghost and began to cry out, because they had all seen him and were terrified. But he spoke to them at once and said, \u201cCheer up! It is I; do not be afraid.\u201d He got into the boat with them, and the wind died down. They were all filled with awe, for they had not understood about the loaves, because their minds were dulled.<\/p>\n

Meditate on what God tells you in the Gospel<\/strong><\/p>\n

My sister asked my grandmother a long time ago how she would react if a picture of the church moved. My sister, who was a child at the time, answering her own question, said that she would be scared to death. It's natural for us that expressions of God in this world, when we least expect it, scare us, but everything could change if we stop seeing God's expressions as inconceivable and start seeing them for what they are: expressions of love.<\/p>\n

My response to my sister would be that I would very likely be scared; few are prepared to experience an image moving, I would surely even scream like the apostles in the Gospel, because I would see a ghost, an image moving at first.<\/p>\n

But whether to remain in fear or get out of it depends on how I understand why the image is moving, why Jesus is walking on water. If it's a ghost, it's logical for me to remain scared, but if I hear a \u00abCheer up, it is I!\u00bb, things change a lot. Because a manifestation of God in my life is the best gift I can have; knowing that it is He who is speaking to me banishes all fear. God only manifests Himself because He loves me.<\/p>\n

Jesus walks on water not because he wishes to be seen as the world's great magician, but because his apostles needed him. He reveals himself only because he loves me. I may never understand how an image moves, how a man walks on water, but if I can understand the reason why all this happens, He wants to enter my boat, He wants to be in my life.<\/p>\n

Therefore, the important thing is not whether God walks on water or not, but why He does it, and this makes every manifestation of God in my life the most important thing, whether supernatural or magical, whether common or ordinary; what matters is that He walks towards me.<\/p>\n

I can say that God manifests himself every day, but there are some specific moments that have marked me. One that calmed the winds in my life has been my calling to the priesthood. What about yours? Do you dare to share it?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00abThrough these biblical episodes, the Lord speaks to us today and asks us to let Him free us from our fears. \u201cFree from fear\u201d is precisely the theme chosen for this gathering of yours. \u201cFree from fear.\u201d Fear is the origin of slavery: the Israelites prefer to become slaves out of fear. It is also the origin of every dictatorship, because on the people's fear, the violence of dictators grows. In the face of the evil and ugliness of our time, we too, like the people of Israel, are tempted to abandon our dream of freedom. We feel legitimate fear in situations that seem hopeless. And human words from a leader or a prophet are not enough to reassure us when we cannot feel God's presence and are unable to surrender ourselves to His providence. Thus, we withdraw into ourselves, into our fragile human security, into the circle of loved ones, into our comforting routine. And in the end, we give up the journey to the Promised Land to return to the slavery of Egypt.\u00bb<\/p>\n

Propose a personal one. The one that involves the most love in response to the Beloved... or, if you believe that this is what God is asking of you, live what is suggested below.<\/em><\/p>\n

To tell a person about that manifestation of God in one's own life, whether small or large, but to relive the moment.<\/p>\n

We thank You, Lord, for all Your benefits, You who live and reign forever and ever.<\/p>\n
