\"Experiencing<\/a>The question that crosses our hearts is: how to meet God in this holy week, week of love, week of pain, week of anguish, week of hope?<\/p>\n

We Catholics who believe in the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist may feel troubled at this time, sad to know that we will not be able to be physically present in adoration during these days and that we will not be able to receive the Bread of Life. We will not be able to accompany through adoration the one who suffers for love of us, the one who has taken upon himself the evil, the pain and the anguish of the world. And we feel a great longing for all the external elements that embellish these mysteries: the processions, the monuments, the fervor of others that motivates us.<\/p>\n

But then, what can we do?<\/p>\n

We can exercise our faith. We believe in the real God, in the close God who makes all things new. We believe in the creative God, who thirsts and really wants to meet us, in the God who allows evil - he does not want it, but allows it - and knows how to bring good things out of evil itself. This God wants to be present in a very special way during this Holy Week.<\/p>\n

But what good can God bring out of this situation and how can we meet with Him?<\/p>\n

\"Experiencing<\/a>We can be sure that this moment is a time of purification in love, of discovering what really matters, of desiring the true, the good and the beautiful.<\/p>\n

God is taking advantage of this moment to increase our desire for Him, so that after this period is over, we will emerge more focused on the essentials of our life: a deep desire to love God and our neighbor, a desire to change the world with the power of love.<\/p>\n

We could define this time as the time of desire. Desire is a reaction to the desired good, but which at that moment is not possessed, which is absent and for this reason we feel longing, and although God is a present God we will always thirst and yearn for Him, because the infinitude of His love never ends!<\/p>\n

This desire can be filled very deeply in these holy days. God will be present, God will touch our hearts in these days. It is beautiful to feel God's desire, the desire to meet with Him, to receive from Him the answer to the deepest questions of our heart: Lord, do You really care for us, can You really heal me, do You love me, do You accompany me, why so much evil?<\/p>\n

That is why it is time to pray, to talk to God heart to heart, to talk to the Lord in a renewed way. Benedict XVI defined prayer as \u00abthe encounter between God's thirst and man's thirst\u00bb. Man thirsts for God and God thirsts for man to thirst for Him.<\/p>\n

\"Experiencing<\/a>Mysteriously, not only are we thirsty, but God is also thirsty for us. And He, who is all-powerful and who sees in secret, will fill us with His love. He will find a way for us to experience his love. With prayer we are filling this thirst for God, for our thirst for Him is growing. These holy days show us the consequences of God's thirst for us.<\/p>\n

In summary, what does God want to say to us this Holy Week?<\/p>\n

He wants to tell us that He loves us, that we are important to Him, so important that He has taken upon Himself all the weight of the sin of the world, all the evil.<\/p>\n

He wants to show us His wounds and demonstrate that He can heal ours with His wounds.<\/p>\n

He wants us to know that He understands us, that He became man and that He experienced what we experience: fear, abandonment, betrayal, rejection, humiliation, insecurity.<\/p>\n

He wants to teach us that evil is not overcome by hatred, by war, by rejection; but by surrender, by love that makes all things new.<\/p>\n

He wants us to know that He asks us for a true conversion, but not with punishments but with His love that willingly receives the blows that we would deserve.<\/p>\n

\"Experiencing<\/a>He wants us to experience other ways of His presence, besides the participation in digital celebrations: in the beauty of creation, in our neighbor (in the smile of a child, in the caress of a loved one), but also in those who suffer; for as we treat them, so we treat Him.<\/p>\n

He wants to teach us that it is impossible to take Him out of this world because He really loves this world more than we love ourselves. Men may close churches, they may remove crucifixes from public places, they may eliminate all religious objects, but not God. To eliminate God from the life of man we would have to eliminate man himself, who even without wanting to, carries in himself the image of God and a thirsty heart until he does not rest in him (cf. St. Augustine).<\/p>\n

That is why in these days the heart will be the tabernacle where God wants to come down. And He wants to come down to stay. And once we can see him again physically in the Eucharist we will recognize that it was he who walked with us in a special way this week. And so we will take the opportunity to say to Him: Lord, stay with us always. And we will realize that it depends more on us that the Lord stays, since He is continually knocking at the doors of our heart.<\/p>\n

I am certain that the world needs God, it needs the God of hope, the God who overcomes evil. The living and real God who alone can fulfill the deepest desires of the human heart. The God who overcomes death and who gives hope not only for this life, but also for the life that awaits us.<\/p>\n

Perhaps this occasion is a special time to meet that special God, perhaps we may already be experiencing his presence in a new way. Perhaps this year we will allow ourselves to be completely conquered by his love, a love stronger than death!<\/p>\n

May God give us the grace to approach this sacred triduum with an open heart, with reverence, with love, as one who knows that the Lord may surprise us. Let us take off our sandals as Moses did when he saw that burning bush of God's love that was not consumed. Love that is not extinguished even today. Love that is always there for us to welcome and experience how important we are to Him.<\/p>\n
