Del santo Evangelio seg\u00fan san Mateo 14, 1-12<\/p>\n

En aquel tiempo, el rey Herodes oy\u00f3 lo que contaban de Jes\u00fas y les dijo a sus cortesanos: \u00abEs Juan el Bautista, que ha resucitado de entre los muertos y por eso act\u00faan en \u00c9l fuerzas milagrosas\u00bb.<\/p>\n

Herodes hab\u00eda apresado a Juan y lo hab\u00eda encadenado en la c\u00e1rcel por causa de Herod\u00edas, la mujer de su hermano Filipo, pues Juan le dec\u00eda a Herodes que no le estaba permitido tenerla por mujer. Y aunque quer\u00eda quitarle la vida, le ten\u00eda miedo a la gente, porque cre\u00edan que Juan era un profeta.<\/p>\n

Pero lleg\u00f3 el cumplea\u00f1os de Herodes, y la hija de Herod\u00edas bail\u00f3 delante de todos y le gust\u00f3 tanto a Herodes, que jur\u00f3 darle lo que le pidiera. Ella, aconsejada por su madre, le dijo: \u00abDame, sobre esta bandeja, la cabeza de Juan el Bautista\u00bb.<\/p>\n

El rey se entristeci\u00f3, pero a causa de su juramento y por no quedar mal con los invitados, orden\u00f3 que se la dieran; y entonces mand\u00f3 degollar a Juan en la c\u00e1rcel. Trajeron, pues, la cabeza en una bandeja, se la entregaron a la joven y ella se la llev\u00f3 a su madre.<\/p>\n

Despu\u00e9s vinieron los disc\u00edpulos de Juan, recogieron el cuerpo, lo sepultaron, y luego fueron a avisarle a Jes\u00fas.<\/p>\n

Meditate on what God tells you in the Gospel<\/strong><\/p>\n

Seguramente nos ha pasado que, por respeto humano, por salvar nuestro nombre y nuestra reputaci\u00f3n, por no quedar mal con lo dem\u00e1s, hemos dejado de predicar a Cristo, de defender la verdad o de se\u00f1alar injusticias. Y como vemos en el Evangelio, actuar as\u00ed trae consecuencias.<\/p>\n

Recordemos que otros evangelistas nos dicen que Herodes consideraba a Juan el Bautista como un hombre justo y santo. \u00bfC\u00f3mo es posible que dejara que le degollaran entonces? La respuesta es que la vanidad y el orgullo, el quedar bien con los dem\u00e1s, a veces puede m\u00e1s, al parecer.<\/p>\n

Si el rey Herodes hubiera tenido un poco de menos orgullo y vanidad, la historia de Juan el Bautista, hubiera sido diferente. Es decir, pensemos en qu\u00e9 hubiera pasado si a Herodes no le hubiera importado quedar mal con sus invitados y, en vez de ello, defendiera la santidad de Juan el Bautista. Seguramente hoy, estar\u00edamos hablando de san Rey Herodes. Pero desafortunadamente no fue as\u00ed. Por tanto, la invitaci\u00f3n que nos hace este Evangelio el d\u00eda de hoy es a no renunciar a la verdad y a predicar el Evangelio sin miedo a las consecuencias que esto traiga.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u00abDetr\u00e1s de estos personajes est\u00e1 satan\u00e1s, sembrador de odio en la mujer, sembrador de vanidad en la muchacha, sembrador de corrupci\u00f3n en el rey. Y el \u201chombre m\u00e1s grande nacido de mujer\u201d termin\u00f3 solo, en una celda oscura de la c\u00e1rcel, por el capricho de una bailarina vanidosa, el odio de una mujer diab\u00f3lica y la corrupci\u00f3n de un rey indeciso. Es un m\u00e1rtir, que dej\u00f3 que su vida disminuyese, disminuyese, disminuyese, para dar lugar al Mes\u00edas.\u00bb<\/p>\n
