What can a religious publication offer in the realm of thought, art or philosophy? Why does it still make sense to read theological and cultural reflections in a time marked by immediacy and superficial opinion? In a scenario where faith and culture are often presented as separate spheres, there is spaces that follow looking for a deep encounter between the two and the magazine Ecclesia is one of them. The magazine Ecclesia, published by the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum from Rome, is more than an academic journal. Since 1987, it has sought to connect Catholic thought with the issues shaping today's culture: philosophy, history, art, bioethics and literature.

It is published every four months in Spanish.l. It is published in print and digital format with open access. for the general public from the site web of the Ateneo. Its readership includes university professors, theology students, seminarians and lay people interested in the cultural and spiritual debates of the day.

Each issue includes an editorial, academic essays, book reviews and articles that address current issues from a Catholic perspective. The most recent volume, published in June 2025, opens with an editorial by Fr. Fernando Pascual, L.C. on two events that shook not only the Church but the entire world: the death of Francis and the election of Leo XIV.

Ecclesia is part of a broader effort of the Ateneo Pontificio Regina Pontificio Regina Apostolorum, a university run by the Legionaries of Christ. The journal is indexed in international academic databases such as IBZ., Catholic Periodical and Literature Index. This gives it visibility outside the religious world, especially in the university environment.

The publication first appeared in 1987, when the Ateneo was beginning to consolidate itself as a university center. Since 2001 it has been published under the direct auspices of the Ateneo as part of its academic mission.

In times of cultural polarization and ideological confusion, Ecclesia proposes a more leisurely reading. Its editors believe that there is still room for a magazine that listens, argues and proposes from the Christian tradition, without renouncing dialogue with the world.

What will you find in the latest issue?

The first text, entitled «A Farewell and a Welcome», deals with the transcendent moment that the Church experienced this year with the death of Pope Francis and the election of Pope Leo XIV.

Also, several articles such as «Theological foundations of the Jubilee», by Mauro Gagliardi; «Love in religious life», by Ignacio Andereggen. The contents also include the presentation of a new book «Jubilee and Consecrated Life», by Germán Sánchez. Griese; A time to deserve and a time to enjoy.
