Preparatory prayer (to put me in the presence of God)
Good morning, Lord, I place myself in your hands on this new day, help me to be faithful to your inspirations during this new day that is beginning. Increase in me the gifts of faith, hope and charity that I need so much for my sanctification and Christian life. Do not allow me to displease you this day with my inconsistencies, sins and omissions, and give me the grace to live a little closer to you, knowing that you will always accompany me. In your hands I place the deepest intentions of my soul so that this moment of prayer may have the value of intercession that my fellow men and women need so much.
Gospel of the day (to guide your meditation)
From the Holy Gospel according to Luke 12, 54-59
At that time, Jesus said to the people, “When you see a cloud coming up from the west, you say at once, ‘We have a cloudburst,’ and it does. When the south blows, you say, ‘It will be hot,’ and it is. You hypocrites: if you know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky, how can you not know how to interpret the present time? How can you not judge for yourselves what is to be done?
When you go to court with the one who sues you, do your best to come to an agreement with him, while you are on your way; lest he drag you before the judge, and the judge hand you over to the guard, and the guard put you in jail. I tell you, you will not get out of there until you pay the last penny.”.
Word of the Lord.
Meditate on what God tells you in the Gospel
What does Jesus want to tell me at this moment? Perhaps it is time for me to realize what is happening around me? Do I not realize what God does for me every day? Am I able to see beyond the routine of my own life, that is, to see the love of God that allows me to wake up every morning? Can I say that my eyes are open to see the love of God in everything that happens in my life?
It is necessary for us to have this awareness (of God's love), because it is from there that we learn that our life has true meaning when we truly love. Jesus tells us that, if we can interpret the aspect of nature, we can judge what should be done at each moment. Therefore, loving is the right thing to do at every moment, because that is what Jesus does with us. And one is happy when one gives and receives love.
«Am I so attached to my things, to my ideas, closed? Or am I open to the God of surprises? Am I a still person or a person who walks? Do I believe in Jesus Christ - in Jesus, in what he has done: he has died, he has risen and history ends - do I believe that the path continues towards maturity, towards the manifestation of the glory of the Lord? Am I capable of understanding the signs of the times and of being faithful to the voice of the Lord that is manifested in them? We can ask ourselves these questions today and ask the Lord for a heart that loves the law, because the law is of God; that loves also the surprises of God and that knows that this holy law does not end in itself. And on the way is a pedagogy that leads us to Jesus Christ, to the definitive encounter, where there will be this great sign of the Son of Man». (Cf. Homily of His Holiness Francis, October 13, 2014, at Santa Marta).
Dialogue with Christ
This is the most important part of your prayer, prepare yourself to talk with much love with the One who loves you.
Thank you my God, for loving me as you love me. Thank you because I see your action in my life, and how you are so interested in me, like a good Father who watches over his children every day. But thank you also for making me see today what you do for me, that you are the God of surprises who always looks for ways to get closer to his children. Today, Lord, I can understand the reason for your law and your commandments, and how they are the way we have to reach you. The way of love that demands only correspondence to Your love. Help me to love this way that You propose to me to reach the end that You promise me, which is You Yourself, my God. Amen.
Purpose
Propose a personal one. The one that involves the most love in response to the Beloved... or, if you believe that this is what God is asking of you, live what is suggested below.
Having meditated on the response of God's love in my life. Propose today to make a good examination of conscience, where you can see your own correspondence to God's love. Ask for much help from the Holy Spirit to allow you to see inside yourself to remove the obstacles that prevent you from truly loving Jesus.
Farewell
We thank you, Lord, for all your benefits, you who live and reign forever and ever.
Amen.
Christ, our King!
Thy Kingdom come!
