Friday, September 13, 2024 - «Can one blind man lead another like him?»

Can a blind man guide a blind man?

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.

Christ, our King.
Thy Kingdom come!

Preparatory prayer (to put me in the presence of God)

My Father, thank you for your patience and mercy. I ask your forgiveness for the times I have ignored your presence. Help me to discover in this prayer the means I have to concretize in order to no longer disappoint you and to always correspond to your love.

Gospel of the day (to guide your meditation)
From the Holy Gospel according to Luke 6, 39-42

At that time Jesus told his disciples this parable: «Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into the pit? The disciple is not above the master. How is it that you look at the speck in your brother's eye and do not notice the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, “Brother, let me pull out the speck that is in your eye,” when you yourself do not see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will be able to see to take out the speck out of your brother's eye.

Word of the Lord

Meditate on what God tells you in the Gospel

Today we see that perseverance in this struggle to unite ourselves more and more to the most holy will of God, for that is where true perfection lies, has its reward.

Although life is full of difficulties, discouragements and labors, it is also true that it is very short and that suffering is fleeting. Soon the end of the journey will come and there we will find rest and the reward if we have known how to fight for Jesus Christ.

What a beautiful program to follow Christ, seeking to make happy those who live next to us without thinking of ourselves, and at the same time how much strength of will and how much abnegation he demands of us, and what a great prize he conquers for heaven. To be virile in charity, to be generous and magnanimous, without giving ourselves up to the stingy narrowness of what is strict obligation. Beyond that begins the wide field of delicacy and attentions, of sacrifice and ingenious affability to please others in everything. It is necessary to go to the detail and not to despise the small occasions of sacrificing oneself by giving our brother a token of attention, a cheerful face, a word of encouragement, a condescension in conversation.

We must take advantage of this small life, which is a point in the middle of eternity, because at the end the prize awaits us, the crown; the ineffable joy of possessing God, Jesus, with fullness and without fear of losing Him any more, awaits us.

«The appellation «hypocrites» that Jesus gives several times to the doctors of the law is actually addressed to anyone, because those who judge do it immediately, while God takes his time to judge. Whoever judges is wrong, simply because he takes a place that is not his. But he is not only mistaken, he is also confused. He is so obsessed with what he wants to judge, of that person - so obsessed - that this idea does not let him sleep. ... And he does not realize the beam that he has. He is a fantasist. And he who judges becomes a defeated person, ends up badly, because the same measure will be used to judge him. The judge who is in the wrong place because he takes the place of God ends up in defeat. And what is the defeat? That of being judged with the measure with which he judges. The only one who judges is God and those to whom God gives the power to do so. Jesus, before the Father, never accuses! On the contrary: he defends! He is the first Paraclete. Then he sends us the second, which is the Holy Spirit. He is the defender: he is before the Father to defend us from accusations. And who is the accuser? In the Bible, the devil, Satan, is called «accuser». Jesus will judge us, yes, at the end of time, but in the meantime he intercedes and defends us.
(Homily of H.H. Francis, June 23, 2014).

Dialogue with Christ

This is the most important part of your prayer, prepare yourself to talk with much love with the One who loves you.

Purpose

Propose a personal one. The one that involves the most love in response to the Beloved... or, if you believe that this is what God is asking of you, live what is suggested below.

To make the constant exercise of not judging the actions of the people with whom I live.

Farewell

Christ, our King!
Thy Kingdom come!

Most prudent Virgin, Mary, Mother of the Church.
Pray for us.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
