Señor, te pido con todo mi corazón el don de tu fidelidad y perseverancia porque sé que solo no puedo. Ayúdame a reconocer el día de tu llegada, que me dé cuenta por las personas que pones a mi alrededor. Dame la gracia de crecer en sabiduría como tu hijo.
Gospel of the day (to guide your meditation)
From the Holy Gospel according to Luke 2:22-40
When the time of Mary's purification according to the law of Moses had passed, she and Joseph took the child to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord, according to what was written in the law: Every firstborn male shall be consecrated to the Lord, and also to offer, as the law says, a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.
There lived in Jerusalem a man named Simeon, a righteous and God-fearing man, who was waiting for the consolation of Israel; in him dwelt the Holy Spirit, who had revealed to him that he would not die without first seeing the Messiah of the Lord. Moved by the Spirit, he went to the temple, and when Joseph and Mary were entering with the child Jesus to fulfill the prescriptions of the law, Simeon took him in his arms and blessed God, saying:
“Lord, you may now let your servant die in peace, as you promised me, for my eyes have seen your Savior, whom you have prepared for the good of all peoples, a light that enlightens the nations and the glory of your people Israel.”.
The father and mother of the child were amazed at such words. Simeon blessed them, and to Mary, the mother of Jesus, he announced: “This child has been placed for the ruin and revival of many in Israel, as a sign that will provoke contradiction, so that the thoughts of all hearts will be exposed. And you, a sword will pierce your soul”.
There was also a prophetess, Anna, daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was a very old woman. As a young woman, she had lived seven years in marriage and was now eighty-four years old. She did not depart from the temple day or night, serving God with fasting and prayer. Hannah came at that time, giving thanks to God and speaking of the child to all those who were waiting for the deliverance of Jerusalem.

Meditate on what God tells you in the Gospel
Qué alegría es ver a gente consagrada a Dios y sacerdotes que han entregado su vida a Dios por muchos años. Me he encontrado con sacerdotes que celebran 50 años de sacerdocio y para un joven como yo es un gran desafío el pensar que algo puede durar tanto tiempo. De verdad que es un pedazo de cielo ver a estos hermanos mayores que han vivido para Dios la mayor parte de su vida, en fidelidad y perseverancia. Claramente no han llegado al punto en el que estén sin dificultades, porque la vida no es un valle de rosas, sino que nos topamos con espinas más de lo que nos imaginamos. La esperanza y confianza en Dios juegan un rol muy importante porque sin estas virtudes los momentos de crisis no se superarían.
Los dos ancianos en la fe que nos presenta el Evangelio reflejan esta actitud de confianza que no se deja vencer por las montañas que Dios parece ponerles. A Simeón le prometió ver al salvador, pero no sabía cuándo, tenía que esperar. También se puede resaltar su talento para escuchar al Espíritu Santo que ese día le mostró al que esperaba su corazón. Ana era una mujer que no se apartaba del templo, estaba consagrada a las cosas de Dios y por eso el Señor le concedió la gracia de ver al salvador. Su experiencia como esposa y madre le ayudó cuando ya se encontraba sirviendo al Señor en el templo. Creo que su testimonio de vida muestra como toda mujer, consagrada o no, está llamada por el hecho de ser mujer a ser madre y esposa, cada una en las circunstancias a las que Dios le llama.
«La profecía de los ancianos se cumple cuando la luz del Evangelio entra plenamente en sus vidas; cuando, como Simeón y Ana, toman a Jesús en sus brazos y anuncian la revolución de la ternura, la Buena Nueva de Aquel que vino al mundo para traer la luz del Padre. Por eso os pido que no os canséis de proclamar el Evangelio a los abuelos y a los ancianos. Id a ellos con una sonrisa en vuestro rostro y el Evangelio en vuestras manos. Salid a las calles de vuestras parroquias y buscad a los ancianos que viven solos. La vejez no es una enfermedad, es un privilegio. La soledad puede ser una enfermedad, pero con caridad, cercanía y consuelo espiritual podemos curarla.»
