Thy Kingdom come!
Preparatory prayer (to put me in the presence of God)
Lord Jesus grant me to live in the present moment and not in the regrets of the past or the worries of the future. Help me to focus my heart on today, for it is today that you want to speak to me and manifest your love.
Gospel of the day (to guide your meditation)
From the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew 4, 12-17.23-25
At that time, when Jesus heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew to Galilee. Leaving Nazareth, he settled in Capernaum, by the lake, in the territory of Zebulun and Naphtali. Thus was fulfilled what the prophet Isaiah had said: “The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, on the way to the sea, on the other side of the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles. The people who dwelt in darkness have seen a great light; to those who dwelt in the land and shadows of death, a light has shone.” Then Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” He went about all Galilee, teaching in the synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, healing the sicknesses and diseases of the people. His fame spread throughout Syria, and they brought to him all the sick who were afflicted with all kinds of diseases and pains, demoniacs, lunatics and paralytics. And he cured them. And multitudes followed him, coming from Galilee, Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and the South.
Word of the Lord.
Meditate on what God tells you in the Gospel
In today's Gospel we find Jesus proclaiming the Kingdom of God and showing that whoever welcomes it, his life will be transformed. Our God is a God who heals, liberates, restores, strengthens, consoles, gives life and life in abundance. He is a God who became man and deeply longs to reign in our hearts, his Kingdom is a kingdom different from all others.
The Kingdom of God does not invade or impose, but rather inspires and proposes. It is a Kingdom different from the others, its King goes ahead in the struggle and gives his life for his own, giving himself and loving without limit, it is his way of governing. Those who join Him are not his subjects, the King makes them heirs, his children and friends. The respect, love and admiration of his own springs from his love for them, which has overcome hatred, sin and even death itself. Those who accept the invitation will have eternal life. All are invited. Only one thing the King demands: our hearts, which he longs to satisfy. His Kingdom has no limits but only the boundaries of our selfishness: it is up to us to let him reign in our lives.
God lives today, heals today, delivers today and wants to reign today: Will I let Him reign in me today?
«The Kingdom of Heaven is the opposite of the superfluous things offered by the world, the opposite of a banal life: it is a treasure that renews life every day and expands it towards wider horizons. In fact, those who have found this treasure have a creative and searching heart, which does not repeat, but invents, tracing and traveling new paths, which lead us to love God, to love others, to truly love ourselves. The sign of those who walk on this path of the Kingdom is creativity, always seeking more. And creativity is that which takes life and gives life, and gives, and gives, and gives, and gives... It always seeks many different ways to give life.» (H.H. Francis, Angelus of July 26, 2020).
