In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.

Christ, our King.
Thy Kingdom come!

Preparatory prayer (to put me in the presence of God)

Holy Father, I want to treasure your words in my heart, I want to contemplate, listen and follow your Son, cover me with the shadow of your Spirit and grant me to dwell with you always. Amen.

Gospel of the day (to guide your meditation)

From the Holy Gospel according to St. Mark 9, 2-13
At that time Jesus took with him Peter, James and John, went up with them alone to a high mountain, and was transfigured before them. Their garments became dazzling white, such as no fuller in the world can leave them. Elijah and Moses appeared to them, conversing with Jesus. Then Peter spoke up and said to Jesus, “Master, how good it is here! We are going to make three tents, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” They were frightened, and he did not know what he was saying. A cloud formed and covered them, and a voice came out of the cloud, “This is my beloved Son; listen to him.” Suddenly, as they looked around, they saw no one but Jesus, alone with them. As they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, “Tell no one what you have seen, until the Son of Man is raised from the dead.” This stuck in their minds, and they discussed what he meant by “rising from the dead”. They asked him, “Why do the scribes say that Elijah must first come?” He answered them, “Elijah will come first and restore everything. Now why is it written that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be despised? I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they have done to him as they wished, just as it was written.”.

Word of the Lord.

Meditate on what God tells you in the Gospel

The mystery of the transfiguration is an epiphany, it is as if the celestial floodgates were opened for a moment to reveal to men the glory and the divine plan. The Trinity becomes mysteriously sensitive to three men. The Father makes his voice heard, the Son lets his light be seen and the Holy Spirit makes them feel his shadow.

Jesus was transfigured before them, that is, he changed form before them, perhaps as a prefiguration of what would be his transubstantiation, that is, his change of substance, in the Eucharist. In the transfiguration his clothes became a dazzling white, in the transubstantiation: his body, soul and divinity are transformed into a dazzling white of love in the form of bread.

Moses and Elijah appear to converse with Jesus. The Law and the prophets are like indicators of a path that leads to salvation. Moses and Elijah lived their earthly lives as indicators of a path that they did not know personally. It is until this moment that the Law, represented by Moses, and the prophets, represented by Elijah, meet personally with Jesus: the way, the truth and the life. The Law and the prophets converse with their raison d'être, culmination and goal.

The punctual miracle of the transfiguration, however extraordinary, is a prefiguration of the marvelous miracle of the perennial presence of God in the Eucharist.

I want to climb all the mountains to be with Jesus. I want to have Peter's experience, and say from the bottom of my heart, how good it is to be here! I want to follow the path of salvation and find my reason for being, my culmination and my goal.

«Transformed by the presence of Christ and the ardor of his word, we will be a concrete sign of God's life-giving love for all our brothers and sisters, especially for those who suffer, for those who are lonely and abandoned, for the sick and for the multitude of men and women who, in different parts of the world, are humiliated by injustice, arrogance and violence.» (H.H. Francis, Angelus of August 6, 2017).

Dialogue with Christ

This is the most important part of your prayer, prepare yourself to talk with much love with the One who loves you.

Purpose

Propose a personal one. The one that involves the most love in response to the Beloved... or, if you believe that this is what God is asking of you, live what is suggested below.

Make a visit to the Blessed Sacrament or a spiritual communion, where you give thanks for the immense gift of God's presence in the Eucharist.

Farewell

We thank you, Lord, for all your benefits, you who live and reign forever and ever.
Amen.

Christ, our King!
Thy Kingdom come!

Most prudent Virgin, Mary, Mother of the Church.
Pray for us.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
