Preparatory prayer (to put me in the presence of God)
Grant me, Lord, to be able to express to you all that is in me and to be docile to what you ask of me.
Gospel of the day (to guide your meditation)
From the Holy Gospel according to St. Mark 6, 30-34
At that time, the apostles met Jesus again and told him all that they had done and taught. Then he said to them, “Come away with me to a lonely place, and rest a while. For there were so many coming and going that they had no time to eat. Jesus and his apostles went away in a boat to a quiet, secluded place. The people saw them leaving and recognized them, so they came running overland from all the villages to that place and went ahead of them. When Jesus came ashore, he saw a large crowd waiting for him, and he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd, and he began to teach them many things.
Word of the Lord.
Meditate on what God tells you in the Gospel
Today's Gospel invites you to search the depths of your heart and withdraw into silence, to rest from the everyday - “Come away by yourselves to a lonely place and rest a while” - God knows your worries, so when He invites you, you can feel that He is walking with you, He takes you to an encounter with yourself; and this is possible by withdrawing, getting away from the daily noise so that you can listen to the sound of silence.
When you get home after a day of work, study or a meeting with friends, give yourself time to be with you in silence. Forget about the pending things at work, school or university, about the plans you are making with your friends, take a break from electronic media - phones, computers, ipads, social networks, etc. -; learn to know yourself and overcome your fears of loneliness; take a break from the world and you will learn to be happy.
This is what the apostles did, after they arrived from their mission. It was necessary to be away from others, for one can only give one's best when one is rested and when one has taken back that which one will share or give to others. The disciples had to be in communion with God in prayer in order to be able to take it to others.
You can bring out the best in yourself as long as you rest and go into the most fascinating world, but that you often avoid, your inner self. Don't be afraid to take a break and rest a little, then you will see that, although it is not easy, everything will make more sense and the load of activities will be more bearable.
«The weariness of oneself. It is perhaps the most dangerous. ... This weariness, on the other hand, is more self-referential; it is the disillusionment of oneself, but not looked at from the front, with the serene joy of one who discovers himself a sinner and in need of forgiveness, of help: he asks for help and goes ahead. It is the tiredness that comes from “wanting and not wanting”, from having risked everything and then longing for the garlic and onions of Egypt, from playing with the illusion of being something else».
(Homily of H.H. Francis, April 2, 2015).
Dialogue with Christ
This is the most important part of your prayer, prepare yourself to talk with much love with the One who loves you.
Purpose
Propose a personal one. The one that involves the most love in response to the Beloved... or, if you believe that this is what God is asking of you, live what is suggested below.
For half an hour before and after family meals I will turn off the electronic media.
Farewell
We thank you, Lord, for all your benefits, you who live and reign forever and ever.
Amen.
Christ, our King!
Thy Kingdom come!
