Thy Kingdom come!
Preparatory prayer (to put me in the presence of God)
My God, if I should ever tire of coming to you, I would like to ask you for the grace to understand that love, more than in feelings, has above all its foundation in the desire to be faithful, in being, in constancy, in continuous renewal, in the austere joy of giving oneself for the one one one loves. With this disposition, which comes to me from your grace, today I come once again to converse with you.
Gospel of the day (to guide your meditation)
From the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew 13:24-30
At that time, Jesus proposed this other parable to the crowd: «The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field; but while the workers were asleep, an enemy of the owner came and sowed tares among the wheat and went away. When the plants had grown and the ear was beginning to form, the tares also appeared. Then the laborers went to the master and said, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field, and where did these tares come from? They said to him, ’Do you want us to go and pull it up?‘ But he said to them, ’No. Lest in pulling up the tares you also pull up the wheat. Let them grow together until harvest time, and when the harvest comes, I will say to the reapers, ‘First pull up the tares and bind them in sheaves to be burned, and then store the wheat in my barn.
Word of the Lord
Meditate on what God tells you in the Gospel
Lord Jesus, thank you for sowing the seed of your love in my heart. At times perhaps I have not reciprocated your generosity. Perhaps I have not appreciated the gesture of sowing your love in me. I see you walking beside the fields of my heart, going out like the sower in the young morning, throwing the seeds with the discreet illusion that one day there will be a harvest. They are good, beautiful, fertile fields, they have good soil: the sower knows it, and that is why he does not desist in his determined task of rising each day for careful cultivation.
I wish I had always corresponded to you. I can imagine a heart wounded with love for my sins, for my little things, my imperfections, my mistakes, even intentional ones. I can see a heart wounded by love for me, but a love that does not diminish no matter how many times I fall, but that becomes more inflamed.
I ask your forgiveness for my sins and above all I beg you to grant me an ever-renewing trust in your mercy, so that I may never tire of receiving your forgiveness, so that I may never tire of returning to your arms which are always open.
Make me understand that You will always wait with patience and illusion for my return to You. You will wait for your crop to show its first sprout, you will beg for patience so that the work will not stop, so that the tares will not be seen, but only the wheat that is already taking its golden color, «Lest in pulling up the tares, they also pull up the wheat.
«The evil one is more cunning than we are and is capable of tearing down in a moment what we have patiently built up over a long period of time. Here we need to ask for the grace to learn to neutralize - it is an important habit: to learn to neutralize -: to neutralize evil, not to pull up the weeds, not to pretend to defend as supermen what only the Lord has to defend. All this helps us not to lower our arms in the face of the thicket of iniquity, in the face of the mockery of the wicked. The word of the Lord for these situations of weariness is: “Fear not, I have overcome the world. And this word will give us strength”.
(Homily of H.H. Francis, April 2, 2015).
