Your name never in vain

Iván Yoed González, LC

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.

Christ, our King.
Thy Kingdom come!

Preparatory prayer (to put me in the presence of God)

Jesus, I am in a world surrounded by invitations to follow the path of selfishness, of the least effort, of lies, so I begin this prayer asking your forgiveness for the times I have betrayed you. Allow me to discover now the way to love others as You wish, grant me to know You more deeply so that I may fall more in love with You and give glory to God by loving others.

Gospel of the day (to guide your meditation)
From the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew 5, 33-37

At that time Jesus said to his disciples: “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ”You shall not swear falsely, and you shall do to the Lord what you have promised him with an oath. But I say to you, do not swear by any means, neither by heaven, which is the throne of God; nor by the earth, for that is where he sets his feet; nor by Jerusalem, which is the city of the great King. Neither swear by your head, for you cannot make a single hair of your head black or white. Say simply yes, when it is yes; and no, when it is no. Whatever more is said, it comes from the evil one.".

Word of the Lord.

Meditate on what God tells you in the Gospel

Lord, I ask for the grace never to act in your name if I do not seek the good. And I ask you to always seek the good in your name. Nothing, no act of my life, is indifferent to grow in love. No act that is not directed to do good is indifferent to you. No act of love is indifferent to you. But if I ever claim to do good, but consciously do evil, I offend you, Lord. And I offend myself too, for I am your image and likeness.

The gift of sincerity is what I want to ask of you, Lord. A sincerity that is rooted in the depths of my soul. May I always live with the intention of acting in truth. May I not allow myself to be overcome by the temptation of lies, of easy ways, of the pleasurable life. May my beacon always be your light.

If one day I should lose my clarity, I trust, Lord, that I will still be in your hands. I put on my part all my will, my freedom, my love, my desires, my illusions and projects to always seek to have you as my goal. Never your name in vain, never. May you always be in my heart so that my lips say yes, when it is yes, and no when it is no.

“Jesus also tells his disciples not to swear, because swearing is a sign of the insecurity and duplicity with which human relationships develop. The authority of God is instrumentalized to guarantee our human activities. Rather, we are called to establish among ourselves, in our families and in our communities, a climate of cleanliness and mutual trust, so that we can be considered sincere without resorting to superior interventions in order to be believed”.
(Homily of H.H. Francis, February 12, 2017).

Dialogue with Christ

This is the most important part of your prayer, prepare yourself to talk with much love with the One who loves you.

Purpose

Propose a personal one. The one that involves the most love in response to the Beloved... or, if you believe that this is what God is asking of you, live what is suggested below.

Today I will not act with duplicity or lies; I will actively seek love, being sincere and frank with what I do, say and think.

Farewell

We thank you, Lord, for all your benefits, you who live and reign forever and ever.
Amen.

Christ, our King!
Thy Kingdom come!

Most prudent Virgin, Mary, Mother of the Church.
Pray for us.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
