Saturday, October 14, 2023 – «The Silence of God»

Adrian Olvera, LC

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.

Christ, our King.
Thy Kingdom come!

Preparatory prayer (to put me in the presence of God)

I want to be silent so that, in the silence, I can listen to you.

Gospel of the day (to guide your meditation)
From the holy Gospel according to Luke 11:27-28

At that time, as Jesus was speaking to the crowd, a woman from the crowd called out, “Blessed is the mother who bore you and the breasts that nursed you!” But Jesus replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it.”.

Word of the Lord.

Meditate on what God tells you in the Gospel

Faced with a woman's exaltation from the crowd, Jesus, without much introduction, uses the opportunity to give us another beatitude: “Blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it.”.

Blessed are those who listen and obey. That is to say, blessed are those for whom love is not only a theory but a very concrete way of life.

It would seem like a very simple beatitude, yet it requires a lot of radicality because listening implies silencing, requires attention, demands silence.

It's not about mere external silence; it's about silence in the face of life's superficialities.

Only in that silence can I begin to distinguish God's voice in my life; that guides me, that comforts me, that gives security to my steps on life's paths.

It is in silence that I discover what God wants for my life and, therefore, what makes me happiest, what makes me most fulfilled… where I discover the reason for my existence.

«To give your life, to have the spirit of martyrdom, is to do your duty, in silence, in prayer, in the honest fulfillment of your duty; in that silence of daily life; to give your life little by little. Yes, just as a mother does, who without fear and with the simplicity of maternal martyrdom, conceives a child in her womb, brings it into the world, breastfeeds it, raises it, and cares for it with affection. That is giving your life. And these are mothers. It is martyrdom. Yes, being a mother does not only mean bringing a child into the world, but it is also making a life decision, the decision to give life.
(Homily of H.H. Francis, January 7, 2015).

Dialogue with Christ

This is the most important part of your prayer, prepare yourself to talk with much love with the One who loves you.

Purpose

Propose a personal one. The one that involves the most love in response to the Beloved... or, if you believe that this is what God is asking of you, live what is suggested below.

In the face of the noise of my daily life, I will ask the Lord for the grace of inner silence in order to hear him.

Farewell

We thank you, Lord, for all your benefits, you who live and reign forever and ever.
Amen.

Christ, our King!
Thy Kingdom come!

Most prudent Virgin, Mary, Mother of the Church.
Pray for us.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
