Sunday, July 18, 2021 - A taste of heaven.

H. Luis Alejandro Huesca Cantú, L.C.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Christ, our King, Thy Kingdom come!

Preparatory prayer (to put me in the presence of God)

Lord Jesus, come into my heart. Fill my soul in this small moment, You are the one who can fill it, only a drop of Your love would be enough to satiate it.

Gospel of the day (to guide your meditation)

From the Holy Gospel according to St. Mark 6, 30-34

At that time, the apostles met Jesus again and told him all that they had done and taught. Then he said to them, “Come away with me to a lonely place, and rest a while. For there were so many coming and going that they had no time to eat.

Jesus and his apostles went away in a boat to a quiet, secluded place. The people saw them leaving and recognized them; then from all the villages they ran overland to that place and overtook them.

And when Jesus came ashore, he saw a great multitude waiting for him, and he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd, and he began to teach them many things.

Word of the Lord.

Meditate on what God tells you in the Gospel

Jesus, as he did to his apostles 2000 years ago, also tells us today: «Come with me to a lonely place, so that you may rest a while». (Mc 6, 31) What is this solitary place to which Jesus invites us to rest with him? The Church, with its wisdom of many centuries, teaches us that every now and then we have to go to a solitary place. The Church invites us to seek a small desert space. There we will find that silence that allows us to listen to the voice of the God who loves us and who speaks to us in the whisper of a gentle breeze.

A few years ago, before I entered the seminary, I started going to Mass every day. I would go in the evening after a long day's work. I would go to Mass in the evening to give the Lord the tiredness of my day and also to thank Him for all the good things He had done in me. I must say that sometimes I would arrive at the celebration very tired, but those moments were truly a time of rest. I would sit in front of the Tabernacle and say to Him, «Lord, thank You for allowing me to meet all these people throughout my day, there are still many unresolved problems, but I place them in Your hands so that You can solve them.» In this way, daily Mass was no longer just another activity, but a true rest in the loving arms of God.

In the same way, I invite you to make a little space in your day to have a moment of prayer or to live the Holy Mass with fervor. And you will see that your life will change with these stops along the way that will be a taste of heaven.

«Prayer works miracles; and the poor then sense, by the grace of God, that, even in their precarious situation, the prayer of a Christian has made present the compassion of Jesus: He in fact looked with great tenderness on the tired and lost multitude like sheep without a shepherd. The Lord is - let us not forget - the Lord of compassion, of closeness, of tenderness: three words never to be forgotten. For this is the Lord's style: compassion, closeness, tenderness.»

(Audience of H.H. Francis, February 10, 2021).

Dialogue with Christ

This is the most important part of your prayer, prepare yourself to talk with much love with the One who loves you.

Purpose

Propose a personal one. The one that involves the most love in response to the Beloved... or, if you believe that this is what God is asking of you, live what is suggested below.

Go to Mass on a weekday to experience that rest in God, as a child rests in its mother's arms.

Farewell

We thank You, Lord, for all Your benefits, You who live and reign forever and ever.

Amen.

Christ, our King!

Thy Kingdom come!

Most prudent Virgin, Mary, Mother of the Church.

Pray for us.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
