H. Francisco J. Posada, L.C.
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Christ, our King, Thy Kingdom come!
Preparatory prayer (to put me in the presence of God)
Lord, may I see how necessary simplicity is in my life because I do not want to be entangled with my problems that will lead me to isolate myself, but may I have the confidence to talk to You about my life as a friend and may I share with You my sorrows and dreams because I know they are important to You, as I am important to You.
Gospel of the day (to guide your meditation)
From the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew 11:25-30
At that time, Jesus exclaimed: “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned and revealed them to the simple! Thank you, Father, for so it has seemed good to you.
The Father has put all things in my hands. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.
Come to me, all you who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble of heart, and you will find rest, for my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”.
Word of the Lord.
Meditate on what God tells you in the Gospel
A child is easy to convince, or at least most of them are, which is why God wants us to be like children, simple. He wants to communicate to us how much He loves us, but if we get caught up in wanting to listen to reasons or that we do not feel Him close, we will not know this truth that transcends our understanding. The mere thought of God revealing this great secret to us, which is his infinite love for us, fills us with immense peace, but, at the same time, it is a truth that is difficult to understand. It is a field where we have to ask the Lord to grant us the grace to see it with our hearts so that it becomes a reality where his message reaches us with words and feelings.
Christ has made Himself simple and even more, a child; this is why He is able to say that the Father has revealed the mysteries to simple people because He experienced it as a man. Although He already had a great intimacy with God the Father, He did not want to refuse the opportunity to feel the Father's love in human flesh and so He took the form of a man. Just as a child wants to be like his father, Christ is like the Father, and both want to speak to a simple heart that does not hinder grace and asks for it with confidence and insistence.
Christ, help me to find in You the example of a son that I need in my life, that, although I am an adult, I may return to that moment when I depended on others and allowed myself to be helped. I ask for the grace to understand your message with my heart and to be able to follow you on the path that you indicate to me, because being with you is a unique and unrepeatable experience; and that I may demonstrate my faith in you because you take nothing away and give everything.
«If truth and faith, happiness and salvation are not our possession, a goal attained by our merits, then the Gospel of Christ can be proclaimed only in humility. One can never think of serving the mission of the Church with individual arrogance and through ostentation, with the pride of those who distort even the gift of the sacraments and the most authentic words of faith, making of them a booty that they have deserved. One cannot be humble out of good manners or out of a desire to appear captivating. One is humble if one follows Christ, who said to his own: “Learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart”. St. Augustine wonders how it is possible that, after the Resurrection, Jesus allowed himself to be seen only by his disciples and not, on the other hand, by those who had crucified him. He answers that Jesus did not want to give the impression of wanting to “mock those who had put him to death. It was more important to teach humility to friends than to throw the truth in the face of enemies”.»
