Christ, our King, Thy Kingdom come!
Preparatory prayer (to put me in the presence of God)
Lord, give me your grace to see with the love that you see in the people around me, that I may never see others as means to achieve my selfish goals.
Gospel of the day (to guide your meditation)
From the Holy Gospel according to John 13:16-20
At that time, after washing his disciples“ feet, Jesus said to them, "Amen, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor is the one who is sent greater than the one who sent him. If you understand this and put it into practice, you will be blessed.
I do not say this for all of you, for I know whom I have chosen. But this is in order that the passage of Scripture may be fulfilled, which says: He who shares my bread has betrayed me. I tell you this now, before it happens, so that, when it happens, you will believe that I am.
Truly I say to you, whoever receives the one I send receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me”.
Word of the Lord.
Meditate on what God tells you in the Gospel
God lies at the beginning of everything we do and are, He precedes us in many ways. One of them is the mission He entrusts us with and the love He gives us. God has loved us with an immense love and has left us this example so that we can go out into the world and show them what it means to be a Christian. In a certain way this is already our mission, to communicate God's love which, in reality, is to communicate Himself. The mission is to preach who God is and to make known his message of salvation.
Jesus always accompanies us in our actions, because He wants to be part of everything we do. He comes with us everywhere we go, but He wants us to invite Him.
Think about the places you frequent and how you can invite Jesus to accompany you. If you are on missions, in the temple, or in any religious activity He is present. But He also wants to be in those who are not religious. Every time we meet someone, God calls us to recognize his presence in that person. God himself, from all creation, has loved with all his heart and with all his strength; this fact pushes us to treat all the people we meet in life with the affection and respect deserved by someone who comes from God, the greatest thing that the human mind can imagine.
«We too are called to receive Jesus who comes to meet us. To encounter him: the God of life must be encountered every day of our existence; not once in a while, but every day. Following Jesus is not a decision to be made once and for all, it is a daily choice. And the Lord is not encountered virtually, but directly, by discovering him in life, in the concrete of life. Otherwise, Jesus becomes a beautiful memory of the past. But when we welcome him as the Lord of life, the center of everything, the beating heart of all things, then he lives and revives in us.» (Homily of H.H. Francis, February 2, 2019).
