Gospel of the day (to guide your meditation)

From the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew 14:22-36

At that time, immediately after the multiplication of the loaves, Jesus had his disciples get into the boat and go to the other side. Jesus made his disciples get into the boat and go to the other side, while he sent the people away. After sending them away, he went up the mountain alone to pray. When evening came, he was there alone. Meanwhile the boat was far from the shore, and the waves were tossing it about, for the wind was contrary. In the early morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. When the disciples saw him walking on the water, they were terrified and said, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out in terror. But Jesus immediately said to them, “Be calm and do not be afraid. It is I.” Then Peter said to him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you, walking on the water.” Jesus answered him, “Come. Peter got out of the boat and began to walk on the water toward Jesus; but when he felt the force of the wind, he became afraid, began to sink, and cried out, ”Save me, Lord!“ Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand to him, held him, and said, ”You of little faith, why did you doubt?“ As soon as they got into the boat, the wind died down. Those in the boat fell down before Jesus, saying, ”Truly you are the Son of God.“ When they had crossed over, they came to Gennesaret. As soon as the people there recognized him, they proclaimed the news throughout the region and brought to him all who were sick. They asked him to let them touch even the hem of his garment; and as many as touched him were healed.

Word of the Lord.

Meditate on what God tells you in the Gospel

The life that Christ invites us to live will always be marked by a seesaw of moments of clarity and moments of shadows. There will be days in which we will delight in seeing the multiplication of the loaves and the many miracles of the master, but others in which God's actions will seem mysterious and disconcerting, because God's ways are not the ways of men.

For this reason, Jesus wanted to leave us a great lesson in this passage to all the men of little faith of all times, when he says: “Be calm and do not be afraid. It is I”. Jesus wants our faith to be firm in spite of the light or darkness that comes into our lives. Our faith must be so strong that we must know that the moments of trial or darkness will pass, and it is an opportunity to grow in our sanctification and trust in God.

Pope Francis has repeated the importance of remembering. It is common for us, men of little faith, to allow ourselves to be troubled by the spells of life, or to give too much importance to things that are not so. When we remember God's work in our lives and see the whole, so many ghosts that haunt our boat will vanish. To remember is to see things from the point of view from which God sees us, it is to see the action of his providence that has never left us, nor will ever leave us.

«Corruption, arrogance and the exhibitionism of the leaders increase the collective disbelief, the feeling of helplessness and feed the mechanism of fear that sustains this iniquitous system. In conclusion, I would like to ask you to continue to confront fear with a life of service, solidarity and humility in favor of the peoples, especially those who suffer the most. You will make mistakes many times, we all make mistakes, but if we persevere on this path, sooner rather than later, we will see the fruits. And I insist, against terror, the best antidote is love. Love heals everything».
(Homily of H.H. Francis, November 5, 2016).

Dialogue with Christ

This is the most important part of your prayer, prepare yourself to talk with much love with the One who loves you.

Purpose

Propose a personal one. The one that involves the most love in response to the Beloved... or, if you believe that this is what God is asking of you, live what is suggested below.

Go to a chapel and ask the Lord for the grace to never doubt and to be a man of great faith.

Farewell

We thank you, Lord, for all your benefits, you who live and reign forever and ever.
Amen.

Christ, our King!
Thy Kingdom come!

Most prudent Virgin, Mary, Mother of the Church.
Pray for us.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
