From the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew 5, 20-26
At that time, Jesus said to his disciples: “Truly I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.
You have heard it said to the ancients: Thou shalt not kill, and whosoever killeth shall be brought before the court.. Pero yo les digo: Todo el que se enoje con su hermano, será llevado también ante el tribunal; el que insulte a su hermano, será llevado ante el tribunal supremo, y el que lo desprecie, será llevado al fuego del lugar de castigo.
If, therefore, when you are about to place your offering on the altar, you remember right there that your brother has a complaint against you, leave your offering by the altar and go first to be reconciled with your brother, and then return to present your offering.
Make up quickly with your adversary, as you go with him on the road; lest he turn you over to the judge, the judge to the policeman, and you be thrown into prison. I assure you that you will not get out of there until you have paid the last penny.

Meditate on what God tells you in the Gospel
No es suficiente no matar físicamente, porque en nuestro interior también podemos «matar» a los demás. En nuestras relaciones nos encontramos con gente que no nos cae bien, con la que no nos llevamos, y el hecho de que nos lleguemos a hacerles algún mal no es la actitud cristiana que nos pide el Señor. Más allá de un mero cumplimiento de los mandamientos por el miedo de no ir al infierno, debemos seguir las huellas de Jesús el cual era una persona que llegó a amar a sus enemigos, pero para llegar a esto claramente no lo podemos hacer solos, necesitamos de la fuerza del Espíritu Santo, por eso pidámosle a Él, en esta Cuaresma, que nos ayude a encontrar la forma de amar y perdonar.
El cumplimiento exterior de las cosas que hacemos por ser cristianos, dejando de lado la actitud y lo que conlleva el amar a Dios en concreto (que es al amor al prójimo), se queda como un vaso de agua sin agua. Imaginemos que Dios nos pide este vaso con agua, que lo podemos hacer sin ningún problema, pero si nos falta el agua que es esencial, nuestro acto pierde sentido. Es así en nuestra vida. Por ejemplo, el ir a misa todos los domingos. Si esto no nos lleva a ayudar en la casa, hacerle algún favor a alguien que lo necesite, ayudar a la gente de la calle, etc., se queda como algo meramente de cumplimiento y no por amor a Dios que nos lleva a amarlo con la iglesia y en el mundo.
«Acogiendo la Ley de Dios en nuestros corazones entendemos que, cuando no amamos a nuestro prójimo, nos matamos de alguna manera a nosotros mismos y a los demás, porque el odio, la rivalidad y la división matan la caridad fraternal, que es la base de las relaciones interpersonales. Y esto se aplica a lo que he dicho sobre las guerras y también a las habladurías, porque el lenguaje mata. Aceptando la Ley de Dios en el corazón se entiende que los deseos deben ser guiados, porque no se puede tener todo lo que uno desea, y no es bueno ceder a sentimientos egoístas y posesivos» (SS Francisco, Ángelus 16 de febrero de 2020)
