Christ, Our King.
Thy Kingdom come!
Preparatory prayer (to put me in the presence of God)
Jesus, meek and humble of heart, make my heart like yours so that I may be able to conquer the hearts of my brothers and sisters and lead them to you.
Gospel of the day (to guide your meditation)
From the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew 10, 1-7
At that time Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them power to cast out unclean spirits and to cure all kinds of diseases and infirmities. These are the names of the twelve apostles: the first of all, Simon, called Peter, and his brother Andrew; James and his brother John, sons of Zebedee; Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew, the tax collector; James, son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; Simon, the Canaanite; and Judas Iscariot, who was the traitor. These twelve Jesus sent out with these instructions: «Do not go into the country of the heathen, and do not enter Samaritan towns. Go rather after the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Go and proclaim along the way that the kingdom of heaven is at hand».
Word of the Lord.
Meditate on what God tells you in the Gospel
This passage seems to try to exclude the proclamation of the kerygma to all other men who do not belong to the people of Israel, but in reality, it seeks to highlight the importance of the apostolate at home.
That is to say, sometimes we can get carried away by activism, or the search for great and rewarding apostolates, when in reality we have much more apostolic work in our own house. It is good to have an apostolate that involves going out of oneself, out of one's comfort zone, and going to the peripheries as the Pope invites us to do. But it is highly recommended to start the apostolate where we are. At home, with our loved ones, at work, with the people we live with every day. And this witness will possibly bear greater fruit, because it will always have a continuation and we will be able to follow up those souls that God himself has placed on our path.
Help us to understand, Lord, that the size of our cross is not that which we think best suits us, but that which you have designed for each one of us, according to our own strength and in view of eternity.
«Each person is called to recognize how indifference manifests itself in his or her own life, and to make a concrete commitment to contribute to improving the reality in which he or she lives, beginning with his or her family, neighborhood or work environment. States are also called to make concrete gestures, acts of courage towards the most vulnerable people in their society, such as the imprisoned, the migrants, the unemployed and the sick».
(Message of Pope Francis for the 49th World Day of Peace)
Dialogue with Christ
This is the most important part of your prayer. Be willing to talk with much love with the One who loves you.
Purpose
Propose a personal one. The one that involves the most love in response to the Beloved... or, if you believe that this is what God is asking of you, live what is suggested below.
I will do a self-examination, trying to see if my testimony of life at home, at work and with friends, truly reflects a person in love with Christ, who seeks to extend his Kingdom day by day.
Farewell
We thank you, Lord, for all your benefits, you who live and reign forever and ever.
Amen.
Christ, our King!
Thy Kingdom come!
Most prudent Virgin, Mary, Mother of the Church.
Pray for us.
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
