Sergio Arturo Cordova Paez, L.C., died in Guadalajara at 10:40 p.m. on Sunday, January 31. The announcement was sent by Fr. Paul Lara, L.C., Territorial Director of the Legionaries of Christ of Northern Mexico.
“Sergio Arturo Cordova Paez, L.C., brother of Fr. Marco Antonio, died last night in Guadalajara. He was 59 years old. He had been with Covid for several days, his health became complicated and he died of cardiorespiratory arrest,” says Fr. Paul in a message sent on the morning of February 1.
“Let us pray for the eternal repose of Fr. Sergio, and that God our Lord will give his family comfort and resignation in these difficult moments,” concludes his message.

Profile of Fr. Sergio Arturo Córdova Páez L.C.
Sergio Cordova was born on September 7, 1961 in Atotonilco el Alto, Jalisco, Mexico. He entered the Vocation Center at Madero 12, Tlalpan on August 14, 1972 and on September 15, 1976 he began his Novitiate in Salamanca, Spain.
During his apostolic practices he worked as a professor at the then Novitiate and Humanities Center in Salamanca, Spain. He also collaborated in the territorial directorates of Spain and Mexico.
He made his perpetual profession on September 15, 1984. He was ordained a priest by St. John Paul II on January 3, 1991 in St. Peter's Basilica, Vatican City.
At various times and for several years he collaborated as an assistant to the General Secretariat in Rome. From 1996 to 1999 he ministered in adult ministry in Medellin and Bogota, Colombia. From 2001 to 2006 he was a professor at the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum. From 2006 to 2010 he was a spiritual advisor at the Notre Dame of Jerusalem Center. He worked in adult ministry from 2010 to 2014 in Rome, Italy and then until 2016 in Guadalajara, Mexico. From 2017 to 2020 he served as prefect of studies and professor at the Novitiate Center in Monterrey. On January 31, 2021 he returned to Father's house after battling the COVID-19 coronavirus.
