Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Youth and Family Missionary, suspended this year's Megamission where more than 20,000 missionaries would attend more than 2,500 communities. Instead of the traditional missions, Youth and Family Missionary launches the program “Extraordinary Missionary” which consists of living these holy days from the homes.
Today, the Mass for the beginning of the missions was transmitted from the chapel of the territorial directorate of Regnum Christi, presided over by Father Ricardo Sada, L.C., president of the territorial board of directors. The transmission was made through the official accounts of Youth and Missionary Family on Facebook and Youtube, and was followed by more than 20 thousand people.
During the homily, Father Ricardo mentioned that the missionary work this year is being done in a very special way: “This year we are doing it the same way, only that we changed some things, but the spirit is exactly the same, with different circumstances, but the apostle is an apostle. The one who wants to transmit Christ does it with coronavirus and without coronavirus”, he mentioned.
He pointed out that the missions are a time to transmit to others “the hope of Christ and this year we have a fantastic opportunity to do so” and that creativity will be a determining factor this year: “Today we have to respond to these missions from home, through the internet, with prayer and using our imagination, the creativity of the apostle to see what other ways we can come up with”.

He recalled the Masses of sending and Easter Sunday of other years and invited the missionaries not to be overwhelmed by the difficult moment we are facing: “Today we live in a situation that overwhelms us. And how do we Christians face a situation that overwhelms us? With hope, because we know that in the calm and in the storm, Jesus Christ is there”.
John Connor, LC, Nancy Nohrden, Félix Gómez Rueda, Francisco Gámez-Arcaya and Álvaro Abellán-Gar-cía, asked in a press conference in Rome that the General Board of Directors of Regnum Christi, led by Fr. letter missionaries to evangelize at home, digitally and to support the most needy, because the face-to-face missions are cancelled, but not the need of God.
Barbara Herrera, national director, explains: “Extraordinary Missionary is the Catholic who, knowing the extraordinary situation we live in today, does not remain indifferent and goes out to meet the needs of the world. It is the Catholic who knows, imitates and transmits God's love from home, supporting the people around him”.
For Manuel Borbolla, who has been a missionary for 20 years, providing medical and dental support, legal advice and support to the parish priests, this Holy Week he will be doing a mission from home: “After
We will be able to see the impact of cancelling the missions, listen to Pope Francis and realize that we have to value the home, the family, more and start extraordinary missions there. To support the people who are in communities, we will make virtual visits with short videos to bring hope; the events of Holy Week and retreats will be transmitted online. We have also set up a virtual medical and psychological office that is providing remote consultations with the support of the Universidad Anáhuac”.
To become an Extraordinary Missionary you can register for free at https://demisiones.net/extraordinario/ From there you will be able to download and receive the material, links to the celebrations that will be held live from Jerusalem, activities for children and material for parishes to share with their community. Youth and the Missionary Family is a work of the Regnum Christi which, since the 1980's, responded to the call of St. John Paul II for a new evangelization; it is currently following the mandate of Pope Francis to reach out to the peripheries as a church going out.
During the year we also carry out weekend, summer and Christmas missions, so we will look for ways to continue supporting the most vulnerable areas of our country, as soon as conditions allow.
