During Ascension weekend, May 9-12, the Friendship Tournament was held at the Regnum Christi House, located in Méry-sur-Marne, France. This event, which has become an annual celebration, brought together more than 200 young people from four different countries: France, Belgium, Austria and Germany.
For some years now, the ECYD has invited young people from different European countries to join in this celebration of friendship and to experience the beauty of a charism that transcends borders. This year, the event exceeded expectations, allowing the participants to enjoy four days full of celebration, joy and a competitive spirit. More importantly, these days were marked by the formation of friendships with Jesus, through moments of prayer and formation, and among young people from different countries of Europe.
Adrian, one of the participants, said:
«The Friendship Tournament was for me a great opportunity to see ECYD from an international perspective. I was very excited to see French, Belgians, Germans and Austrians animated by the same spirit of competition and the same friendship for Christ. This clearly shows that, regardless of cultural or linguistic differences, we all form one body in Christ, and are called to live our Catholic faith authentically, no matter where we are.».
Raphaël, who played a role as translator, shared his experience:
«For me, this tournament was a very special experience, as I was the person who helped translate the different languages. So I was able to witness the good humor between the animators and the participants despite the language barrier. I was also delighted to hear the different experiences of the children, who were all delighted with their stay and would like to participate again. What was also beautiful to see is that, winners or losers, everyone was united for the same cause, which allowed us to be cheerful and sporty throughout the tournament.».
The Friendship Tournament was not only a sporting competition, but also a testimony of unity and friendship in Christ, demonstrating that cultural and linguistic differences fade away when sharing the same faith and purpose. You can find the photo album at this link.
