Girl Power gives talk in El Salvador

On Saturday, July 18, the Girl Power Apostolate (@girlpowerbyrc) gave a talk called “Learning to Unlearn: Dismantling Stereotypes about Women and Girls,” which addressed the importance of reconstructing stereotypes about women and girls. Marcela García, head of the apostolate, led the presentation.

The presentation, which took place via Zoom, was attended by 10 young women. The topics addressed in the talk included the most common stereotypes that women face: about their physical appearance, intellectual capacities, emotions, sexuality, among others. At the end, the speaker invited the attendees to live and promote true femininity, to recognize and respect masculinity and to see themselves as powerful and courageous women, created by God as capable of great things.

In support of the presentation, Girl Power generated the hashtag #SeriesOfStereotypes on its Instagram profile (@girlpowerbyrc), which sought to highlight some of the stereotypes addressed in the talk. To do so, the support of certain people who shared motivational messages and reflections on them was requested. Among them was Claudia Cruz, head of the apostolate together with Marcela, and Nahomy Hernández, an engineer who shared her testimony as a woman in the sciences and some advice on how to overcome stereotypes about women.
