«Our Lady of Guadalupe as a model to go out to the crossroads» - Horacio Gomez, layman attending the General Plenary

Horacio Gómez, a layman who will attend the General Plenary

Horacio Gómez (North American territory)

Horacio was born and raised in the city of Guadalajara, Mexico. As a young boy he attended a school run by Regnum Christi and there he joined the ECYD. He joined Regnum Christi in 1996 and volunteered for a year as a Regnum Christi collaborator in Madrid, Spain. He is married to Luisa and has four young children. As a member of Regnum Christi, he helped in the founding of the first ECYD clubs in Guadalajara, has been team leader, section director and local director of Regnum Christi in Dallas, USA. He currently serves on the plenary council of the North American territory, supporting initiatives such as the leadership evangelization plan. For the past 10 years, he has been in charge of different apostolates such as Minuto Mariano and Pasos Marianos through the Dallas Marian Center. He was elected at the 2024 General Convention to attend the General Plenary of Regnum Christi.

Horacio, you have been in Regnum Christi since 1996. How would you define this journey until today?

Regnum Christi has been a gift, a treasure that I continue to discover since the ECYD. A charism that has allowed me to know God more and more each day and that has motivated and allowed me to grow in my faith and my love for the Church and the Virgin Mary. A charism that has shaped my lifestyle and my decisions. A journey in which I have learned that giving is when one receives. And that God expects us to multiply our talents received. This journey has been accompanied by a large family of great friends, spiritual fathers and mothers, guides and testimonies that have contributed and marked my life with many blessings.

Horacio Gómez at a conference

You were one of the lay people who participated as a delegate in the General Convention, how did you experience these moments?

With much gratitude for the road traveled in the renewal and preparation for the convention that began at the local level, then territorial and concluded at the global level. There is no doubt that the Holy Spirit guided this process and always leaves you surprised. In the Convention there was a great family spirit with charity, hope and a great desire to evangelize. Personally, it was refreshing to see the quality of committed people we have in our Regnum Christi family and the potential of what can be achieved if we allow ourselves to be guided by Christ, taking advantage and making the most of everything we have received.

The final document of the Convention has, among its working points, to move on to a pastoral for crossroads, how do you see this vision being applied in North America?

The evangelization that followed the apparition of the Virgin of Guadalupe comes to mind with her perfect inculturation where with maternal love she was able to transmit the message of the true God respecting their language, culture, the situation in which the people found themselves, their needs, difficulties and fears. We live in a very polarized world and indifferent to the needs. We can apply this vision through the eyes of Christ, see with mercy those who do not know the love of God and creatively, in their language, with respect, find these crosses as opportunities to transmit the Gospel.

Horacio at the General Convention

Currently, in the territory you support the “The guide to discernment.”, What initiatives do you see or would you suggest for Regnum Christi to work on the theme of vocational fulfillment?

The General Convention began on April 29, a day in memory of St. Catherine of Siena who said: “If we are what we should be, we will set the whole world on fire. A very appropriate motto in the fullness of our vocation. I propose to join forces in our spiritual family (Lay and Consecrated) sharing an attractive, positive vision of the different types of ”vocations to love“. Legionaries of Christ, Consecrated Women of Regnum Christi & Lay Consecrated Men of Regnum Christi promoting marriage and family, and lay associates promoting consecrated life. Creating a vocational culture where discernment is given importance and priority, where we intentionally pray for vocations, where the means are offered and all are encouraged not to be afraid.
