«The Federation is a gift “to care for, deepen and promote the common charism”.»

Interview with Félix Gómez Rueda, Director General of the Regnum Christi Consecrated Laity.

Félix Gómez Rueda, general manager of the Lay Consecrated Men of Regnum Christi, has written a letter on the occasion of the 2nd Anniversary of the canonical approval of Regnum Christi, which was celebrated on Monday, May 31, 2021. In this letter addressed to the Consecrated Laity, he invites them to meditate on and give thanks for “that gift of God that two years ago we received from the hands of the Church: the canonical approval of the Regnum Christi Federation. The Federation is - above all - a ‘structure of communion’ (Letter of Bishop José Rodríguez Carballo, May 31, 2019) which gives juridical expression, therefore concrete and - so to speak - tangible, to ‘the unity and fraternal communion of the components of the spiritual family’ (Decree of canonical erection, May 31, 2019).”.

In his lines he points out that it is a gift with three dimensions: “In view of caring for, deepening and promoting the common charism, of favoring collaboration in the apostolate, and of enjoying a common canonical structure that expresses the unity and fraternal communion of the components of the spiritual family”.

The laity, part of the spiritual family of Regnum Christi

Regarding the laity of Regnum Christi, he points out that “the approval of the Statutes of our Federation has undoubtedly represented an ecclesial endorsement of the vocation of the lay members of Regnum Christi, who by associating themselves to the Federation participate in the charism”. It also recalls the words of Pope Francis in this regard: “To this reality of the Federation are added individually numerous lay people who do not assume the evangelical counsels, thus constituting a ‘Spiritual Family’, a reality broader than the Federation itself” (Francis, Discourse February 29, 2020).

In this sense, Felix Gomez Rueda recalls that “the family is broader than the Federation in that the Federation as a canonical figure is the result of the agreement between the three federated institutions; but, being this Federation at the service of the communion of all the components of the spiritual family, it finds its reason for being not only in coordinating the federated institutions, but in sustaining the charism, mission and communion of the entire family, which without the laity would be incomplete and would not respond to God's plan for Regnum Christi”.
