Kénosis, God's instrument to reach Him through music

Kénosis is a catholic music group that has been born in the youth section of the Regnum Christi of Ronda, in Madrid. The group is made up of 20 young people, and Leticia Noriega is one of them. Leticia explained to us that their objective is to bring God closer to others through music, putting their gifts into play. In this interview published in regnumchrist.es tells about his participation in the contest Madrid Live Talent and how it helps them Kénosis in his spiritual life: “The whole process of composition is prayer and it is fortunate to be able to have such a special relationship with God”.

How was this group born?

We started because some of us began singing at the Thursday Eucharistic Hours at the Francisco de Vitoria University. Most of us participated in Regnum Christi and we could see that perhaps God was calling us to something more than just singing in adoration. All of us in one way or another have felt called to this project, to this apostolate, and we are working hard to grow little by little.

What does it mean Kénosis, the name of your group?

We have chosen ‘Kenosis’ because it is a Greek word that means emptying and refers to the ‘abasement’ of God... who, without ceasing to be God, assumes human nature out of love. It speaks to us of Christ's closeness, of his encounter with man. In fact, our logo is a K in which we see the manger, the earth and this abasement.

Could you tell us the mission of Kénosis in one or two sentences?

Our mission is to be instruments of God so that people can reach Him through our music. We want the world to know that it is urgent that we live as resurrected because Jesus Christ wanted to die for love for us and we cannot do otherwise.

Does Kenosis help you in your prayer and spiritual life?

Absolutely yes. The life of prayer within Regnum Christi has always been important, but for us it is key. Although we are all young people, we live in different realities and we need each other so as not to drift away from God in our daily lives. In my case, besides this, composing songs helps me to pray and to get closer to Jesus. The whole process of composing is prayer and it is fortunate to be able to have this special relationship with God.

You have been selected for the contest Madrid Live Talent, Why did you decide to participate and what do you expect from the contest?

Yes, we are very happy, it is a great gift to be part of it. We decided to participate because we believe it is a very good way to train and grow as a team. Besides, we think it's a great idea to collaborate in the “professionalization” of Catholic music in Spain.

From the contest we hope to have a good time, learn a lot and sing even more. Obviously if we win it would be a great opportunity to keep growing in the world of music, but it is not our main goal.

What songs did you sing and did you compose them?

The song with which we entered the contest is the first song we composed as a group. It's called Kénosis and it perfectly reflects what we are looking for with this project. We have several more songs and we are still working on them, we hope to release them soon!

After this, what are the next projects?

It is difficult to know. We have many plans, but for now we have few means. After the contest we want to continue composing, to continue living the charism of Regnum Christi in our daily life and to be able to transmit it in what we do. We would also love to record an album and of course we would like to continue to get closer to Jesus and continue to grow in our relationship with Him and with each other.
