In its commitment to truth, justice and healing, the Legionaries of Christ have published their 5th Annual Report, covering the period from March 1 to December 31, 2024. This report is part of an ongoing effort to care for victims of abuse, acknowledge their suffering, repair the damage and strengthen the culture of prevention within the Congregation.
The report presents the work carried out over the past year in relation to the commitments made to listen to, welcome and accompany those who have suffered abuse:
- Listening and attention to victims, with an independent channel and a proactive approach by the Congregation.
- Financial redress and psychological support for those who have suffered abuse.
- Follow-up of ongoing canonical proceedings.
- Evaluation of possible cases of concealment or gross negligence in past events, with the collaboration of external experts, and application of the corresponding processes.
- Completion of accreditation and reaccreditation processes in compliance with safe environment standards.
- Collaboration with external institutions and experts to strengthen and continuously improve prevention work.
- Tackling cases of abuse of authority and conscience.
The report also recognizes that there are still challenges to be faced, including strengthening trust with victims in order to move forward together in the search for truth, justice and healing. It also highlights the need to improve communication throughout the reporting process, ensuring greater transparency and accompaniment at each stage.
The Legionaries of Christ reaffirm that the path to healing requires concrete and sustained actions over time. This report gives continuity to the line of work established in previous years so that each person is heard, protected and respected.
