Luis Ljubetic arrived because of a talk given at his Manquehue school by a couple of Mexican lay people who had recently arrived in Chile. “We were so impressed by their way of expressing themselves and their conviction that we went and formed a group to participate in the activities,” he recalls. He became a member in March 1980. “I have been participating for most of my life and it has been 42 years now.”.
What attracted you to Regnum Christi?
The charism expressed through the people who composed it and knowing that the world can be changed for the better. It brought me that balance between the contemplative life and the apostolic charism, expressed in different works and weekly, monthly and annual activities (meetings, retreats, convivences and missions) that have done so many people good during all these years.
In your opinion, what role should Catholics play in the challenges we face as a society?
As lay people we have a great responsibility in the future of our society, particularly within our own family, and of the Church itself, which has been affected by various scandals. In spite of the latter, the important thing is to be clear that we are followers of Christ and He is our only model of life to follow. This implies an action in daily life and a dedication of oneself, words are not enough.
What has Regnum Christi given you during all this time?
First of all, a solid formation as a Catholic, which has allowed me to give a deeper meaning to my life. Also, strength to overcome difficult moments and to give meaning to the suffering that touches us and finally faith in the promises of Christ. The Eucharist has been the center and foundation of my life as a Christian, without it my life would have been very different.
