Luly Fernández is originally from Monterrey, Mexico, where she grew up with her six siblings (four older sisters and two younger brothers). Her parents were practicing Catholics and raised their children in the faith. Luly recalls that her mother always made reference to the faith and made it part of her daily life. Her father gave them an example of love and devotion to the Blessed Virgin, and made sure that each of his children had an image of the Virgin at the head of their bed, so that they felt under her protection and care.
When Luly was 12 years old, her older sister consecrated herself to God. Her parents were not familiar with Regnum Christi and it was not easy to understand their daughter's decision to dedicate her life to God in this way. After learning more about Regnum Christi, Luly's mother joined the spiritual family. Luly also joined the youth section of Regnum Christi, where she got to know more about the Regnum Christi. consecrated.
She finished her university studies at the Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey and, as a consecrated student, she has been able to complete her Master's studies in Guidance and Counseling and a Doctorate in Education. In his youth, Luly worked in a personnel department for a company, where she realized that she had a great longing to help people experience more of Christ's love for them and better understood the reason for her existence and her life mission.
But before taking the step to dedicate herself completely to God, she met and dated her boyfriend for several years, and even considered marriage. However, God our Lord was still pursuing her heart and leading her in another direction; and it became clear that He had a different calling for her life. Like her sister, Luly received the call to be consecrated in Regnum Christi.
After consecration, her first apostolate was at the then Rhode Island Formation Center. Eventually, Luly became the center's director and helped the school complete the accreditation process so that the consecrated women studying there could receive a Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree. “It was a challenging time, but also a time of many blessings!” commented Luly.
In 2011, she served as Territorial Director of the then New York Territory for one year before heading to Rome to serve as General Councilor until 2014. After fulfilling this role, she collaborated as Vice Director of the boarding school. Le Chatelard, in Switzerland. She served there for eight years, where she was able to draw on her experience for evangelization and work with families; many of whom remain in contact with her even today.
Currently, Luly is serving in an apostolate for ladies and couples in Washington, D.C.
Luly considers that every stage in which she has been able to serve has been a gift and a blessing, and she is very grateful to God for giving her so many opportunities for evangelization throughout her 29 years as a consecrated member of Regnum Christi.
Almost all of her siblings participate or collaborate with Regnum Christi in some way. Currently, Luly has 22 nieces and nephews and 8 great-nieces and nephews. One of her nieces is a consecrated niece, and one of her nephews is studying in Rome this year as a legionary of Christ, while discerning a call to the priesthood.
Luly shared with us that Regnum Christi has been an incredible blessing for her and her family; they would not be the same without this treasure: “God has chosen this boat for us to come to Him, and I am so grateful to be on it and share it with everyone God puts in my path.”.
We thank the consecrated women of Regnum Christi for sharing with us the testimony of Luly Fernandes.
