Due to the declaration of a Coronavirus pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO), and after having consulted several public and private instances of the health sector, Mission Youth Mexico and Central America took the decision to suspend the 2020 Megamissions.
This decision is mainly due to the following reasons:
1. To avoid that the missionaries can transport the virus from the cities of origin to the missionary villages, since this would represent a great evil for the most vulnerable families that do not have the adequate means of health.
2. To protect the missionaries from a possible contagion among them, knowing that during the days of mission it is not always possible to have the necessary measures required by the authorities at this time.
3. To join the national health provisions recommended by the civil authorities, so that the massive mobilizations that the Megamissions entail do not favor this year the passage to scenario 2 or 3 of the epidemic in Mexico and Central America (especially because during the Holy Week missions more than 2500 parishes are visited in 30 states of the country and several Central American countries).
That is why this year we are inviting the members of the Missionary Youth and Family, together with their Directors, to analyze how to join the Holy Week activities organized by the parish priests and bishops of their cities of origin. Above all, to maintain the missionary availability that has always characterized the Missionary Youth and Family and its commitment to serve the local Church. All this obviously respecting the health guidelines issued by the federal and state civil authorities on those days.
Likewise, and according to individual and group creativity and initiative, there is also the possibility of carrying out a mission through social networks (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok...), sharing reflections, inviting to prayer, praying the Rosary, transmitting a live ceremony from where it is possible to participate during those days, sharing the Pope's homilies and reflections, etc.
