On November 21, the Prelature of Cancun-Chetumal will have its solemn ceremony of elevation to Diocese, an event in which the Nuncio to Mexico, Bishop Franco Coppola, will participate. Within this framework of celebration, on November 11, the ordination of six permanent deacons took place on the island of Cozumel (Quintana Roo), two of whom are members of Regnum Christi of the señores section: Raúl Ignacio Rosado Salazar and Felipe de Jesús Campos Kú.
The ordination of the permanent deacons was presided over by Bishop Pedro Pablo Elizondo, bishop of the prelature, and concelebrated by the director of the local section of señores, Fr. José Esqueda, LC.
The ecclesiastical ministry, which is the ministry of men dedicated to the service of God, comprises three different degrees of the sacrament of priestly orders: bishops, priests and deacons.
Two of these degrees participate ministerially in the priesthood of Christ: the episcopal order, corresponding to bishops, and the order of presbyterate, corresponding to presbyters or priests.
The order of the diaconate, as stated in the Catechism of the Catholic Church in number 1554, is destined to assist and serve bishops and priests.
Three days after becoming a Diocese, Cancun-Chetumal continues with the great challenge of evangelizing a land of mission with its contrasts, being at the same time a rich Mayan cultural zone with its people, its customs and its religiosity and also a great international tourist area. The permanent deacons in the Diocese are an invaluable help for the work of the priests who have to attend to a population of more than 1.5 million inhabitants.
The following are the profiles of the new permanent deacons:
Raúl Ignacio Rosado Salazar
He was born on February 22, 1965 in Merida, Yucatan. He arrived in Cozumel in 2003, the last of eight siblings and married to Karla Lopez Acosta for 28 years and with whom he has three daughters: Karla, 22, Maria, 15 and Victoria, 11. As Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist he was assigned to the celebrations of the Word in the town of Cedral and promoted the construction of the remodeling and expansion of the chapel there. From 2012 to date he has participated with his entire family in the Holy Week missions in the Mayan area. He was advisor to the youth sector of the Christian Family Movement from 2016 to 2019. From 2017 to date along with his wife Karla coordinates the Pastoral of Family and Life in the deanery San Miguel Arcángel of Cozumel. From 2013 to 2019 he initiated along with his wife the apostolate A Supper with Jesus on the night of December 24 taking the child God and a dinner to low-income homes. He is a trainer in bioethics, gives sacramental talks and conferences on values formation for couples and young people. He has been a member of Regnum Christi since 2004. From 2004 to date he has been serving as Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist in the parish of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and was proposed for ordination to the permanent diaconate by Father Enrique Flores, LC.
Felipe de Jesús Campos Kú
Born February 5, 1963, in Dzemul, Yucatan. He is the second son of two children born to Mr. Miguel Campos Chalé and Mrs. Estela Kú Bacab de Campos. He is 57 years old. Married for 27 years with Mrs. Lucy Amparo Chan Noh with whom he has a son and two daughters. He arrived on the island of Cozumel in 1978. From 1978 to 1980 he was a member of the ECYD. From 1988 to 1991, member of the coordinating team and coordinator of the Youth Missionary League. In 1994 instituted Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion by Fr. Michael Pakenham, in the parish of San Miguel, in Cozumel. From 2000 to 2002 advisor to the Youth Mission League (Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish). From 2009 to date, Minister of Holy Communion at Corpus Christi Parish. 2019 and 2020, youth ministry advisor (Corpus Christi Parish). In 2020, giving virtual pre-baptismal talks for parents and godparents. Virtual talks for adults in preparation for the sacrament of First Communion. Proposed as a candidate for the permanent diaconate by Corpus Christi Parish.
