Due to an error when filling out a form, Camilo Cortés ended up enrolled in the evangelization missions He was not looking for this, but he was not able to say no when Fr. This was not what he was looking for, but he was not able to say no when Fr. Lucas Délano, LC, called him to invite him. During these days of Holy Week, the joy of the missionaries, the simplicity of the people and the love hidden behind the rags of the street dwellers were tearing down his masks and transforming his heart. At the end of the missions, he gave a powerful testimony, from which we can extract these four reflections:
- «Jesus is like that, he does nothing more than shuffle the elements that the world has to conquer us, with such a precise subtlety that, seeing him at the end, one can say: »How can you be passionate about me, even though I am what I am?.
- «When I saw Carlos, a child with special abilities, greet Father Lucas with such a strong hug, he radiated so much joy that I could even feel it in my gut. Making the analogy, I think that's how we should all be when we see God, to go out and hug him as tightly as someone who doesn't want to get depressed».
- «With the street dwellers I could see the love that lies behind the rags, seeing this I said to myself: of course, they are rags, but theirs are clothes, which in the long run can be cleaned or changed, how many times has my soul been like a rag, and even seeing it like that, I have not wanted to transform it or at least clean it. Joaquín, one of these street men who spoke to me that night about his childhood on the streets, his adolescence, his adulthood and now his old age, made me think how unjust we are who live another reality, how is it possible that someone spends his whole life on the street and we do not do something to change it? God was in all this, removing masks and putting faces...».
- «And from this experience of street dwellers I take away that Christ is still alive! Christ is alive, but he is still broken, he is broken in those who suffer, in all these unknown and distant brothers, crushed, oppressed, sick and mutilated. Christ, you are alive and broken, but you want us to help restore him, we are that element to restore in the world».
