On Tuesday, February 8, the inauguration of the new Archbishop of Xalapa, Jorge Carlos Patrón Wong, took place. The event was attended by members and participants of various institutions and organizations with presence in the archdiocese, among them were some members of the local Regnum Christi of Xalapa: Fathers Dermot McCluskey, LC, Guillermo Romo Atilano, LC, and Juan Antonio Olmos, LC; also, Mariana Ruiz, assistant of the locality and Sandra Lindo, responsible for communication of the locality.
The ceremony was presided over by Archbishop Rogelio Cabrera, archbishop of Monterrey and president of the Mexican Episcopal Conference, Rogelio, concelebrated with Card. Luis Felipe Arizmendi, bishop emeritus of San Cristobal de las Casas, Bishop José Trinidad Zapata, bishop of Papantla and who was apostolic administrator of Xalapa before the arrival of Bishop Jorge Carlos, Bishop Roberto Lucchini, administrator of the Apostolic Nunciature, concelebrated with Archbishop Rogelio. Other bishops of the region, priests, nuns, lay people, friends and relatives of the new archbishop also participated and showed their gratitude and hope for his appointment, after the sudden death of Bishop Hipolito Reyes in August 2021.
Jorge Carlos affirmed that holiness is “falling in love and being passionate” about the specific Christian vocation as priests, religious, honest citizens, responsible parents, and not bowing down to selfishness and falsehood.
“In the intentions of the heart, the deepest desires and decisions that really move us originate. Holiness is to keep the heart, one's own heart clean of everything that stains true love. Holiness is to announce with one's own existence to the youngest, to the new generations that life is a vocation of service, not a race for economic success, the pursuit of power and the enjoyment of the lowest and most superficial pleasures,” he continued.
Jorge Carlos also sent a message to Regnum Christi in Xalapa: “A very affectionate greeting to all the members of Regnum Christi, many blessings. Pray for me, I pray for you, see you very soon“.
