Jaime Lorenzo, LC, together with others legionaries of Christ John Klein, LC, and a number of other consecrated members of Regnum Christi, as Emily Roman, have created an initiative to contribute their vocation and talent to the music called Regnum Christi Music Collective. This group of Legionaries, consecrated women and lay members from around the world have joined this mission to create music that inspires others to follow Christ and share his love with everyone. (Article translated from the website of Regnum Christi of the United States by the communications office of Spain).

A vocation since childhood

For Fr. Jaime, music has always been something natural and everyday in his life, but when he entered the seminary following Jesus“ call to become a Legionary of Christ priest, he left it behind without giving it much thought. ”I didn't think about music then other than to sing in choir in the seminary,“ says Fr. Jaime. ”I was focused on preparing to become a priest, and on participating in missions, events and apostolic initiatives that I saw as more important and a priority than music," he explains.

A couple of years after entering the seminary, music came back into his life when he discovered the beauty of composing and sharing songs during different apostolic and prayer events. “However, some doubts arose in my mind,” Father Jaime comments, “as I felt I should devote more time to things I thought were more important. Should music be a part of my life, or should I just give it up?”.

Gifts to offer

Fortunately, Fr. Jaime's spiritual director suggested to him not to waste the talents God had given him, and suggested that he think about putting his musical gifts at the service of the Church and Regnum Christi: “He told me one day that God gives talents to each of us,” he explains, “and when you are part of a Church reality, or a congregation, your own talents and gifts become gifts that you can offer to your spiritual family.”.

Songs that exude the charism of Regnum Christi

With this impulse, and thanks to that discernment, Fr. Jaime has been organizing various musical initiatives in Regnum Christi. Regnum Christi Music Collective is one of them. The songs produced by RC Music Collective share five central elements. On the one hand, each song they create embraces the contemplative or evangelizing spirit of Regnum Christi; each song seeks to bring those who hear or perform it to an encounter with Christ and the love of the Father, and to impel them to apostolic action. Another key component of their music is harmony: each song contains male and female voices that harmonize, expressing the family spirit of Regnum Christi. The songs also include the voices of groups composed by Regnum Christi members, can be easily learned and sung, and are accompanied by a music video that illuminates the theme of the song.

For now, RC Music Collective is releasing one song a month, as well as paving the way for a recording in the summer of 2021 that will feature new Regnum Christi members co-authoring new compositions. Being a new reality, they are always looking for opportunities that arise to collaborate and create. “We are millennial musical artists who love Jesus and our vocations,” says Fr. Jaime. “If we have talent, why not use it.”.
