Diploma "Science and Faith" by the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum

The Science and Faith Institute of the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum, The “Diploma in Science and Faith”, which lasts for four semesters (two years) and with the possibility of obtaining a diploma, is being offered by the University of Rome. The course will be in Spanish and in online modality. The dates for enrollment in the diploma course are from June 6 to October 31, 2023.

The relationship between science and faith is an issue that needs to be addressed: on the one hand, the incessant developments in science and technology raise new and urgent ethical and anthropological questions; on the other hand, we are faced with so-called cultural and religious pluralism, which calls for the need to propose meeting points for dialogue and a common search for truth.

Training objectives of the diploma

To develop theoretical and cultural competences on the relationship between science and faith, in general terms, and to offer a wide and deep formation on what this relationship means today: the most current perspectives of scientific research will be the object of analysis. Each student will find, both in the didactics and in the seminar and laboratory activities, the opportunity to receive an organic formation in relation to the main theoretical and practical questions posed by the sciences of nature and life. In addition, specialized competences will be offered on the question “science and faith” in the concrete social and political life, both in a formative and informative field.

Professional usefulness of the diploma

The Diploma prepares the following professionals:

  • experts in interdisciplinary didactic activities projects (secondary and higher education, university, master's degree, distance learning);
  • experts in communication sciences and globalization;
  • experts on the cultural, religious and political issues of the relationship between science and faith, to be incorporated into international governmental or non-governmental organizations (UN, UNESCO, European Union, public institutions, public and private entities, non-profit sector, ethics and bioethics committees);
  • operators in the field of training and scientific dissemination, journalists, opinion leaders and similar figures;
  • teachers and students of Catholic cultural institutions (Athenaeums, Universities, Institutes of Religious Sciences), who want to specialize their own spiritual and cultural formation.

Who can enroll in the diploma program?

Students who have obtained a bachelor's degree in theology or philosophy or a licentiate or bachelor's degree in other disciplines, or who have completed studies in religious sciences; also admitted are high school teachers, professors of religion, operators in the field of communications, pastoral agents and catechists.
