This first ordinary General Convention, which will be held from April 29 to May 4, 2024, will present an opportunity for all the vocations of Regnum Christi to look together at the world and, from the Heart of Christ and their own charism, to give renewed impetus to the mission they share as apostles of the Kingdom.
John Connor, LC, Nancy Nohrdem, Félix Gómez Rueda, Francisco Gámez and Álvaro Abellán, sent a letter to all Regnum Christi members outlining the specific purpose of the General Convention:
- discernment of the apostolic reality and how we can continue to respond to the current challenges of society and the Church;
- reflection on the identity of the lay member of Regnum Christi;
- the implementation of the Regnum Christi Federation to live our purpose more fully (EFRC n.7) and our mission (EFRC n.8).
The main tasks of the General Convention (EFRC n. 67) and detailed in the letter are:
- Examining the situation of the world and of the Church and how the Federation can best serve their needs in creative fidelity to its own spirit and mission; to analyze the situation of the Federation and the most important issues proposed by the territorial conventions and by the supreme bodies of the federated institutions;
- To take the most appropriate measures to promote the development and the adequate renovation of the Federation, to drive the fulfillment of the mission, meet challenges and resolve difficulties most important, according to their own spirit;
- Define the priorities for the next six-year term;
- To make the necessary modifications to the Bylaws, The new regulations are to be submitted for ratification by the supreme bodies of the federated institutions and for approval by the Holy See;
- Modify or approve secondary codes of its own right; and to issue directives;
- If necessary, formulate a recommendation for one of the federated institutions with a view to safeguarding the common charismatic heritage;
- Allocate assets that are part of the Federation's stable assets, if any.
In preparation for the General Convention, territorial conventions are scheduled to take place during the next six months. These will help to “identify, mature and prepare the proposals for the General Convention” (EFRC n. 70), will gather the conclusions and fruits of the discernment made by the members and localities of their territory in order to “seek to listen, among all the members of Regnum Christi, to the voice of the Lord who invites us to go out and respond to the diverse needs of the world and of the Church from our charism” (Apostles in Mission.
