Due to the worldwide health contingency, the Holy Week evangelization missions were suspended this year.
But this has not diminished the spirit of initiative of the members of the Missionary Youth and Family who year after year make visits to parishes and communities, taking the Word of God to homes, helping with talks, dynamics and inviting people to participate in the ceremonies of Holy Week.
Likewise, throughout the year many groups continue to do missions offering support in the communities visited. With the passage of time it has been seen that the evangelization missions have a favorable impact wherever they are carried out, making them in some circumstances the only humanitarian aid received by families and entire communities that are abandoned and without resources in some countries, or as Pope Francis often refers to these realities: the peripheries of existence.
This year, as a result of the Coronavirus, the missions have become digital. The missions are not cancelled because “We are always a mission, at home or wherever we are,” as Victor Lopez, director of Missionary Youth in Spain. “I remember now, more than ever, St. Therese of the Child Jesus, patroness of the missions from her monastery cell,” he says. “These are times to transmit faith, hope and charity, because there are many people who will need ‘online missionaries’, from you, to transmit encouragement and support.”.
Missionary Youth and Family of Mexico and Central America, has also launched a digital platform for anyone who wants to be an “Extraordinary Missionary” and wants to say "I am an extraordinary missionary". “yes” to Jesus' call to go into all the world to preach the Gospel.
This initiative invites the missionary to “know, imitate and transmit” the love of God, especially to the people around them. For this purpose, they have elaborated an online registration where you will receive all the necessary information to be an “Extraordinary Missionary” during this time.
